Springtime Surprise Weekend (April 13-16, 2023)

After doing a few evening 1 milers this year I would love to see an evening 1 mile race that includes an after party. It would have to be seeded and run in waves but something I'd do.

I don’t want a night race to start the weekend again, that really messed up my sleep pattern last year. But a night race to finish the weekend would be cool

Do you know if info on the races and courses will be available before registration on Aug?

Courses will definitely not be available before registration. People may be able to make educated guesses if something is themed to anything park related (like last year’s Everest 5K was pretty much guaranteed to go through AK, and the Tower of Terror 10 Miler basically had to go past the ToT) but anything specific will not be known. We will know the themes and distances before registration though.

I'm so nervous about what this is going to end up costing me...I just want them to announce distances (age restrictions) so I know how many people I'm paying for in each race! As of now I'm assuming about $2k for bibs.:scared: The more info I have, the better I can prepare for who/which race to register first, etc.

Hi everyone! I'll be heading down for princess weekend solo this year but noticed that springtime surprise hits on my birthday so convinced my husband it's time for our first family trip with our soon to be 5 year old, conveniently that weekend :D. can't wait to see what the theme is, but I'm in no matter what! can't think of a better way to spend a birthday than waking up in the middle of the night to rundisney.

Why are people thinking it is today? Just curious. Weren’t all the races for next year so far revealed a week before CrD registration?

All of the other races have some important "knowns" - particularly the distances and, for MW and Princess, general themes. With SS being a "surprise," I would think it more important to give people a little bit more notice. But then again, there's probably a reason that I don't work for Disney.

Yep. If this was any other weekend I'd have decided if I were doing this well in advance of registration and before they made any announcement for themes. I had decided on MW 2022 maybe a month or two before signing up? You knew exactly what you were getting with most of the race maps (10k being the exception) and the only question was what they might do with theming, and even with that they're always limited to the usual characters.

I’m really hoping they will do the 10 miler again. I also liked being able to register for all races with one challenge bib vs having to get the challenge + 5k for WD and Princess.

Not to mention actual days of the races and if they're morning or night. That changes what people can do for hotels/flights. For those reasons alone you'd think they would have given some answers sooner.

And for me, having to do all of the runs for the challenge might take me out. I'm starting to look at my vacation days - and the extra hotel costs - and it's kind of alarming. Plus I honestly don't like the shorter races unless they have a unique twist to them (like Everest could have been this past year).

That's definitely what I'm waiting for. These can make huge difference in the costs of the weekend.

We have to be out of our AirBNB by 11 on Sunday. And the kids are already missing school for other vacations, so we want to be home by Monday night. I really hope they don't spring a night race on us that last day. I want to do the challenge (whatever that may be), so I would have to factor in a flight home and an extra hotel night. And my husband driving back to CT alone with all 4 kids isn't ideal (two have special needs, so when both are in the car things can get dicey. If it is a long road trip with only one of us we usually only bring one of the twins).
People on the RunDisney Facebook pages are all kinda rude when others are posting they hope the info gets announced soon "you'll have the info before you register." Wow, what a helpful response!

Not that I'm any kind of Rundisney expert, but if there is a night race, I don't think there is any way that it would be on Sunday night. Were any of the old Star Wars races on a Sunday night? I may have to go research this...
