Spring "What are you reading?" Book Thread

Currently reading Hand Me Down by Lee Nichols- Light Chick lit reading. I just picked up the Kingdom Keepers from the Library

I used to love Laurell K Hamilton novels, especially the Anita Blake series but gave up on them after about the fifth one..don't get me wrong, I don't mind raunchyness here and there but IMO, it got to the point where the story suffered because she focused on the sex so much. It became laughable and very predictable. Just my 2 cents though, I know many who still enjoy them.

I'm reading the latest Charlaine Harris and when I'm done with that, I'll start Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. I love my e-reader(I have a Kindle)..so cool to be able to carry all those books with you!

If you have no yet, try Anne Bishop (either her Dark Jewels Series or the Ephemera series. They are a bit more fantasy, but REALLY good. They also can be a bit raunchy but not in an overly in your face way. Just make sure you read them in order! LoL

I just finished Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight_ An African Childhood by Alexandra Fuller. It's about a girl who was born in England, but her parents moved to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in the 1970's when she was just a toddler. It was a very interesting memoir.

I've read Nora Roberts books, so a friend suggested J.D. Robb "in Death" series and I am really liking it. My Library didn't have 1-4 so I started with the 5th book. The others are on reserve. I like mysteries a lot.

My mother and I LOVE the "In Death" series - we've read EVERY ONE of them all the way up to the current one - more than 30 books! If you can, read them in order, but even out of order they are great. You develp a relationship with the characters. And her "future world" (the year 2060 roughly) is so believable and adds a great deal to the interest! I think it's my all time favorite series. JD Robb is Nora Roberts, just in case you didn't get that...

I just finished reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls- She also wrote Half Broke Horses which was also good.

I just started reading that book last night! It is so good!

I've read Crytomonicon..he is really a good writer..takes alot of work to read his stuff, but worth it. I have a trilogy of his to read and haven't gotten the courage to start. I'm now reading Black Light by Stephen Hunter, He's the guy that wrote the book that Shooter was based on..very good read.

I put down Winter Raven by Cassie Edwards. The story was okay but it just wasn't working for me.

Now I've started Brothers by William Goldman. It's the sequel to Marathon Man.

As an aside, my DH wants to get into reading more, but he's never been a big reader. He's coming to the library with me this weekend, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone has any good recommendations for him. He read the Lord of the Rings books and really liked them, but hasn't read much since then. I was thinking Robert Jordan maybe? I remember reading the first couple of novels in the Wheel of Time and really enjoying them.

Two books that instantly come to mind for your DH are Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet and Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind (this is the first in a series - excellent books!)

I loved Wizards First Rule. My husband is currently on the 6th book of the series but I have only read the first one. Will have to read the others.

I am going to have to check out some of the titles recommended here. Getting ready for vacation and need some reading material to take with me on the plane!

Just finished The Help - what a great book! Now reading the last of the Millenium series (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest). That Steig Larson series is fantastic! I can't recommend it enough.

If anyone is looking for some light "summer" reading try the Dark Hunter series by Sherilyn Kenyon, those are entertaining quick read. Book 1 is more of a traditional romance novel, Book 2 seems to really start the series.

I have read those and I will warn you that certain books like Acheron for instance, are not light reads. It is a very dark book, good, but a difficult read.

I just finished "Spoken from the Heart" by Laura Bush. It was actually really good and not too political. She has a kind way of writing that is very descriptive. I also read "The Help" which was awesome. It was one of those books that kept me up reading until all hours, I couldn't put it down. Finally, I just finished "My Life in France" by Julia Child. It was really good. It's an older book, but if you liked the movie "Julie and Julia" you'll recognize a lot from the movie in this book.

Agreed - Acheron was not like the others in the series. His story was definitely dark but, despite that, it was my favorite in the series.
