Spring Break trip- take it or leave it?

So we were planning on going to Florida for 10days to 2 weeks this Spring (haven’t decided exact number yet, but we are homeschoolers, so flexible.) Typically we go in the September-November time frame due to lower crowds, costs, and the Halloween Party, but due to various reasons, a Fall trip does not seem a possibility in the next few years. We stay off site in a time share (Bonnet Creek) and have bonus points so we can “afford” to go in the Spring this year. We have done February once, but only went to the Magic Kingdom one day and it was very crowded (Presidents Day week- unknown to us at the time…we thought it would be lower crowds in February 😂) but we had a good time as we optimized fast passes.

So, as we are really needing to book our Spring accommodations while they are still available, I told my husband that we need to pinpoint our dates. We can go anytime in February or March. I asked my husband what we planned on doing while in Florida as that might affect our dates. I was expecting him to say skip the Disney parks or only go to one park as has been the case the last three years, but he shocked me when he said he wants to do the Disney parks while we are there and focus on them. Those are words I never thought I would hear! I was so excited until I started researching when the best time would be to go and all I see are crowds crowds crowds. I then got excited when it said the first week in March should be good until I read on another site it was Mardi Gras and therefore it will be packed that week as well. Now I don’t know if it will be better to just wait until we can do the trip at a better time or to go for it. We have not done a big Disney trip for four years due to expenses, but have gone to all the parks in the past three years so we have seen all “new” stuff except what has opened in the past year or so. I thought maybe we will just go to each park once (no hopping), but then when you look at the price of tickets, it just makes sense to do 10 days financially since we will be down there long enough and the difference is only like $100 a ticket. But looking at predicted crowd calendars and everyone saying how packed it is during spring break season has me second guessing no everything. I knew to avoid Presidents’ Day week, but it seems like every week is just as bad in February and March.

So would you go for it and make the best of crowded parks or would you wait until you could go during non-spring break times? If you say you would go for it, what two week period in February or March do you think would be the most manageable? (Note, we also have the option to postpone this to Spring 2023, but not sure it will be any better then.)

Obviously only our family can make the final decision, but I was awake half the night last night because this is stressing me out (and I tend to overthink things), so hoping someone has insight that will provide guidance. Thanks!

I would spend the money and get the touringplans calendar.

There are a ton of factors, like cheerleading competitions, marathons, etc. There is a sweet spot in there, though.

I agree with above. For a small amount of money a Touring Plans subscription is extremely helpful when looking at a variety of dates. We also use it often in the parks to watch ride wait times as I find them far more accurate than the Disney app.

Spring Break crowds are manageable. If you are going for 10 days, you have the ability to be flexible. I certainly wouldn’t do open to close 10 days in a row, but if you are going for like, half days, do some rope drop and some close the parks and you can definitely manage to hit all the big attractions in that time.

Winter/Spring Breaks start mid-February and go through the end of April. If you want to avoid crowds I would go during the first two weeks of February. Keep in mind, however, that the weather in February can be iffy. We've been and it's been really nice (t-shirts/shorts) and it's been cool (jeans/sneakers/light jacket).

So I purchased touring plans based on several recommendations. According to their crowd calendar, the Spring “sweet spot” is the first week and a half of April. It is showing mostly green and some yellow April 1-10th. (And a bonus is that expedition Everest should be back open then 😂 DD was ready to say forget it based on its refurb 😂.) Any reason to doubt lower crowds during that time frame?

Adding to my questioning if I should trust touring plans on this one, I do see no park reservations available for April 3 at Hollywood Studies. Is there something specific that would make it popular that day (and perhaps increase overall crowds around that time frame?)

Looks like March 31 - April 3, 2022 is the runDisney Springtime Surprise weekend. Those events attract a lot of runners.

The middle of March is typical spring break for Florida schools. It is probably to most popular time for locals to go, so much so that Disney has finally added block out dates to their new APs for residents.

Agree with above that first 2 weeks of February will be the lowest crowds.
