Anyone out there heading to WDW for Spring Break this year? I go every year, but am having issues finding decently priced flights this year. Is it just me?

No, you're not alone. We were considering a spring break trip but airfare is double or triple the norm. Supply and demand I guess. :furious:

Ditto .. I was convinced we were going to drive or skip it... But got 50k miles from SW instead. A friend who has gone 4 yrs in a row to Orlando area, is skipping it :( she was thinking of driving... But 20 hours was too much for the beach. She is going to DC instead .

When I started looking at airfare it was in the low $400's. That's flying from Central Coast California with one stop and onto MCO. It was 11 months out when I started looking and thought it would go down. Was I ever wrong. It kept going up and up. Not only that, but times and connections changed. Couldn't even get one of the flights I was first looking at. Prices went up, lowest being in the $700's. Prices have stayed @ $560 BUT the times and connections are now horrible! Most cases I would be flying into MCO the FOLLOWING DAY! If I wanted the better times, it's now in the mid $800's. Ended up going with a different airline, paid more than I wanted but got better times and connections. It's crazy what the airfare is....rental cars too. I don't think there will be many bargains to be had, especially during holiday travel.

Were flying from the Bay Area in early April. The rates are crazy. For the three of us, it is going to run us about $1800 plus bag fees. Ugh . . .

Around here prices are always way out of line for school breaks. More than double the price for other times. Whenever we have gone as a family we have wound up driving because we could not justify the cost.

When we have sent the kids to visit their grandparents, I have had them fly mid week so that they avoid the main travel days. Yes they have missed a couple of school days, however the only other option was them not going.

The best price I found was AirTran from Atlanta to MCO for $1000 for 3 of us round trip. Doesn't include bag fees either. Other quotes were $2000.

I bought my tickets for spring break when fares were released and paid 360 per ticket from Newark. After seeing some fares for the summer, not bad IMO. The fare has just gone up from there since I bought!!! For holiday weeks, I always buy my tickets as soon as they come out, since they always become INSANE the closer the dates get!!!!!

SW is having a spring break sale that started yesterday...haven't checked for MCO but hope it helps someone.

Our school district, and many in my area, get spring break the third week in April, regardless of when Easter falls. This year, it falls on Easter week, so EVERYONE seems to be off this week. The NYC airports have a huge jump in prices during local school vacations (heck, it will cost close to $500 a ticket just for jersey week). I don't think prices are going to go down.

I just looked at our flights on SW ... the round trip price is now $718! :faint: The same flights were $396 when they were released.

Of course, if we were going to travel the week after spring break, the same flights would be $287. They definitely price according to school breaks (which is always the first week of April around here)!!!

Looks like we're driving for this reason. I usually pay in the $300 range for flights from DFW but they are 500-600 or more right now for the week we need! We are checking the prices hourly just in case, but planning on driving.

I started looking last year.

We drove to and from but Easter was earlier but flights were still pricey. It not as bad as this year.

This year our spring break ends on Easter so I knew flights were going to be crazy expensive. I booked the auto train. We never did it and figured it has to be better then driving!

I booked it in May and rt for 5 of us plus rooms and our car is just under $1900. I keep looking at flights since my mom is going to fly but they are $600. Eeekkkk...

Next year our spring break starts on Easter. If we like the train I will book it again this may.

I had been looking too since I had found a cruise at a reasonable price but when I couldn't, I started looking at AZ instead to go visit my in-laws. Finally found one on SW with ridiculous flights but a little over $300 a ticket. We have to leave on Thurs night before the spring break starts and connect in Chicago and coming home we have to connect in DWF. Decided it was worth the add'l travel time to get some place warm.

I found that the best prices on Christmas travel this past season came out after I finally purchased. I purchased on 10/17/13 and prices went down about $75 a ticket ($350 to $275) 10 days later for travel on 12/30-Jan 5. So about 8-9 weeks before I wanted to travel. United EWR-MCO

They actually added a flight with a better time after I booked, which made me really :furious:

If you want to go and return @ 11am, tickets will be expensive, but if you can leave and return earlier or later you should still be able to find something imo. Don't panic. Keep watching.

We live in RI and our Spring Break is always the 3rd week in April (tied to Patriot's Day in Mass.) When it is not attached to Easter, as in 2014, it is a great time to go to WDW as crowds have lessoned. The airfare out of RI, MA and NH is outrageous. However, last year we booked out of Hartford, CT on the day the flights were released and saved $900 compared to Southwest out of Providence. It was a 90-100 min or so drive for us, instead of 20. If we were willing to drive 3-4 hours we could have saved a ton more.

So while driving 24 hours is not appealing to me at all, I have found the "drive a little, fly most of it approach" workable.

So find out how far away it is to get to an airport in an area that does not have the same week vacation and see if those prices are worth it to you.

I actually found it the opposite. I booked our trip 6 months in advance as soon as the flights were announced. Booked in 9/13 for upcoming 3/14. It was about $420/person. The same flight now is about $95 less. This is with SW - so I changed it and have a credit but it has to be used by 9/14 which I won't be able to do. I didn't realize this since its only my second time using SW. Our next trip will not be until 12/14 so now we are debating to wait until only a couple months in advance to book or not. But, who knows it might not be the same case then. I haven't studied flight prices enough to make predictions. We are also considering another airline entirely.
