Spring 2008 PI

Honestly, I didn't start my program with a squeaky clean record card, and I think they're not even bothering with me because of that.

Do they even pull your record card? If so, do they make a snap judgement based on it? Or do they give you the benefit of the doubt, put your through interviews, and save that for last?

When did you last work for the company? I was told your record expires from the comp. system after one year... anyone able to validate that?

Also, I'm heading down to Food and Wine on Wednesday for about 5 days. Anyone been yet this year? I hate the nearly five hour flight, but its become a tradition--and the food is so worth it!!

Hello everyone! I applied for 5 (great scots!) PIs last Friday. Well, I sent in my portfolio/transcript on Friday, while the online application was done earlier. I received a call today to schedule my 1st telephone interview on Wednesday.

I'm so nervous! I graduated this past May, so I didn't apply earlier since I didn't think I was eligible. Just the other week, someone @ Disney responded to my eligibility question and said that you can apply up to 6 months after graduation. So.. that's where I am now :)

I applied for the Travel Industry Creative Development, Art-Entertainment, Creative Assistant, Creative Services/Graphic design, and the Communication planning graphic design/journalism internships. I figured that I ought to apply for as many as possible, since I was never a CP... not sure how good my odds are.

Oi! I'm such a rambler XD What kind of questions do they ask for the first interview?

I would try to meet some people in the departments your applying for while you are down there and make some networking contacts. Everything about this company is based off of relationships. Have fun!

I would love to do some networking! It seems it occurs without fail on all of my trips thus far, it's just so hard to plan.

The only position I applied for that I see as directly accessible is Guest Relations. Would ya'll suggest talking to Cast Members in this position, or going as far to request to talk to management?

I'd love to talk to someone with DEG and the Wedding Dept., but they're never really not busy when you see them in the common areas...

Any strategies to make sure it happens?

The one I want the most is Food and Bev Management, and I'm currently working in QSFB at PORS <3 My managers *seem* to support me and what I want to do, but that's about as far as it goes I think =\

My area manager on the other hand, is the one that flat out told me she definitely would NOT recommend me for a prof. internship based on my record card. I mean, like I said, it's not perfect but damn I didn't think it was THAT bad, ya know? I work my tail off at this place, but it seems the one thing that pops out as "bad" (my record card) outweighs extending, coming in on my days off, working doubles, coming in for night shifts the whole week I was deployed and on day shifts at CBR.. etc etc. I know it's not a perfect record card, and it's the main reason I waited so long to apply (the worst thing that could happen is I get rejected.. and I can just try again!) but she was just so harsh about it.

Ugh. Maybe I should hunt down who my recruiter is and have a chitcha with him?

Do you still keep in touch with anyone from the area? I have two managers who are my mentors and when I come in to town, they try and set me up with a formal networking meeting. I would talk to people you already know and then pack disney professional dress clothes just in case you get a meeting. I'm not so sure though about making cold calls. I read networking tips on the portal once which discouraged it. Just so you know, I checked back on the DEG internship I'm applying for and it was still open for applications. The client concierge was still open to. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I thought I would pass it on.

I *Just* got back from Food and Wine yesterday...I mean, 5 days at WDW :)

Do some of the free wine tasting seminars at WOL! I fell in love with a german wine there, and I snuck a bottle to put in my boyfriends Christmas stocking, since he's obsessed with it now too and after F&W, it'll no longer be in the states.

The 12th Anniversary beer at Sam Adams in AA is actually good this year, last year the 11th Anniversary brew was way too dark and heavy.

I don't think your record card comes into play until after the first interview. Do you still meet transfer guidelines? One of my co-interns had had a less the sparkling record card but still managed to get the internship, but if you aren't eligible for a transfer than it might become more of an issue. I agree with everyone else who said to make contacts. The only thing about that is mangment internships are global so it could be ANY F&B manger who is doing the hiring. Good Luck, though! :goodvibes

I don't meet transfer guidelines =( I have more than 5 attendance entries, and I've signed for my seconds reprimand two montsh ago, although it hasn't shown on my record card yet. Being the honest person I am, I brought thisup to my managers. My record card has been clean of attendance violations (usually ONE minute late, thanks security) since August.

All of the points that made up the first reprimand (mostly half points/lates) were due to the "van" system for my resort. It was anywhere from 5-30 minutes late everyday. I finally flew home and got my car, and I've only been late (by one minute, none the less) twice since June. The other two points from my second reprimand were call ins. People get sick, it happens, I'm only human, you know?

Anyway.. my hopes are very slim right now. It's the 10th and I still haven't heard anything. It would have been nice to even get a first phone call and explain my record card, but I doubt at this point I'll get that luxury.

I just wanted to tell you I worked QSFB at Port Fall 06 so I can understand about the record card situation.....When I was there we only got 1 day off a week and any requests for extra days (even just one additional to the 1 they gave us off) was denied. So out of the 50 CPs that started at Port Orleans, just about everybody called in the 3 sick days and in the end only about 20 of us (if that many) actually finished the program. Oh well, if things don't work out this time, you will still have time to do a PI. You should be ok 6 months after your CP. Meanwhile, I haven't heard anything either, and from what I've heard the two Disney Design Group internships I applied for are offering extensions to the interns already there and they don't plan on bringing anyone new in if the extension offers are accepted. Soooooo, I may be out of luck this time around. :sad2:

Granted that yeah we're on 6 days here at PORT adn you're right, we are ALWAYS denied time off, I still love it here. Most of the people I work with kick ***. Was Scott here for your program? He is, by far, my favorite manager; he's so much fun to work with!

And 50 CPs? Wow. There's like 20 of us all together - Fall/Fall Adv/ICP. Apparently we have new people coming, but still we don't have that many people. For Fall Adv, there were only 3 of us.

Eep, that doesn't sound so promising... I also applied for a DDG internship. Where did you hear that from?

Also, I had my first phone interview today from Communications Planning. (I applied for 5 internships, though I know they'd have preferred only 3. I graduated from school back in May and I'm nervous about my odds.) It was a conference call, so I was a little more nervous that I would have liked. I think it went well though — I made a few jokes and the people on the other end seemed to chuckle at them.

The only thing that threw me off was hearing that the Casting department didn't send over my "eligibility" results and online application. The whole eligibility thing is getting me nervous, though I emailed questions@disneyinterns.com and I was told that you can apply for a PI up to 6 months after graduation.

I know I'll be devastated if I wind up not even being eligible to try :( This is my last chance to get any sort of internship with Disney and I really, really want a shot at it. I couldn't become a CP because it would have made me graduate a semester late. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but my scholarship @ school is for 4 years only. So... yeah. </ramble>

Sorry for rambling! I'm just so nervous!

There were a lot of us. They needed help ALL the time especially before Riverside got remodeled. And when Blizzard or Typhoon closes most of those people got transferred over to Port and we had a whole lot of ICP from Brazil come too. Scott was there when I was, from what I've heard he is the only manager left from 06. I didn't work with him too much, I usually stayed at FQ.

And about the DDG internship, that came from a character artist intern that is currently down there. Hopefully, it's not all true.

Hello All! I just wanted to give everyone some encouragement! Hang in there. I still haven't heard anything but I have heard they are a bit backed up due to the high volume of applications...so you still have time!

Have a great week!

Thank you - you too!

I got an email recently that said they chose other candidates for 4 of the 6 positions I applied for. However, I also got a "Thank you for interviewing" email that said I was chosen to move on in the hiring process.

So maybe there is still hope for the other 2 positions? :scratchin

My first post. I just found this board while looking for information on the professional internship programs.

I applied for Animal Technology Internship and two Conservation Education internships, but except for a short panel interview (15-20 minutes) for the conservation education department, by phone, a few weeks ago I haven't heard from anyone.

Anyone else apply to an Animal Program internship or have any information on how they do their hiring or when they usually contact people regarding their decisions?

Thanks

Hey Everyone!

I just applied for some PI's for Spring 08! (Guest Relations, Youth Events and Weddings) And yikes! It's only been 10 days and I'm dying to hear back from them! Hopefully the fact that I applied so late (Oct. 5th) won't hurt.

Thanks for starting this thread! It's so great to hear from others in the same position! Good luck to everyone!
