Could someone who has done this before fill me in on it. Cost, how long it lasts, are you nude, does a machine or person do it, are there different ones, would you do it again and does it look natural?
Thanks

I have it done both ways.Cost really varies, machines are around 35$ here, and a person half the cost.
There are machines, you wear what you want inside...Automatically sprays you.

The other way was an individual, I kept undergarments on. More even IMHO.

I would NOT do it again, as it was streaky and orange. I tried several..

Personally, I think this is on the way out...Hope so, as I own a tanning salon:)

Exfoliate well before going, this really helps.

I've done it a few times. My experience was this:

A) Make sure you exfoliate your skin before you go do it and make sure you get your knees and elbows for sure!

B) First time I wore my swimsuit inside out so that the stain wouldn't get on it. 2nd time I just wore a pair of underwear but nothing on top.

C) It looked pretty natural for the first little while but when you shave you peel a little color off each time.

D) I think it lasts about a week or 10 days at the most

E) Make sure you wash your hands really really really good. Most of them will have a lotion that you put on the palms of your hands, fingernails and toenails to avoid them being sprayed. They give you a shower cap but make sure you get the shower cap as close to your natural hairline as possible cause if you don't it will look really weird!

F)I had mine done by machine. My friend paid a lot of money and got herself "airbrushed" for her wedding. It looked really nice but it was pricey *can't remember it was a year or so ago but I had the  face when she told me*

I did mystic tan for mine. I'd do it again if it was for a wedding or something but I don't know if I'd do it for vacation. When it starts to rub off it looks funky.

Spray tans are big around here - you can usually tell a fake tan from a real one by how orange they are. If overdone you can look very oompa loompa-ish.

Most of the tanning salons around here offer Mystic tans, something to that effect. I'm going to Cancun in May and before I go I plan on doing both - getting a real base tan with the bed and then polishing it off with a spray tan. I know tanning is horrible for you, so I'm nervous about doing it, but I don't want to fry in Cancun either.

OOHHH can I stow away in your suitcase?????? I LOVE Cancun and since we are expecting about a foot of snow in the next 24-36 hours it sounds even better? We were there last Feb and I did NOT want to come home!

I think going tanning before vacationing is a fantastic idea. It is much safer than frying on a beach with UV rays through the roof. I have a lot of customers who do this. They are safer this way, and enjoy their vacation much more..

Enjoy your holiday:goodvibes

I had it done once, where a girl did it. It was in a salon and they take you into a room. You basically are down to your underwear. Mine lasted a while- just under 2wks. My friend did it for her wedding.

A couple of things to remember - when you get dressed afterwards, your clothes can get dyed. I made the mistake of wearing a white bra. It was never white again.

and when it does start to fade, it can fade blotchy. This happened to my friend. So she had patches of tan.

I would do it again - i'm pale as a ghost and need all the help i can get.

Thats so funny I am thinking about doing this because we are going to Cancun in May too! I used to tan a lot in the beds as a teen and am now afraid to. I here it really is bad for you. Living in Michigan I know i won't be able to get any rays before I go so I thought about the spray tans. Still thinking about it, thanks for all your info.

I agree with hydster. I use self tanners year round and I'm neurotic about keeping my skin completely buffed and moisturized. The way MysticTan wears off is hideous. The moment you get it wet (pool or ocean) the flaking and streaking starts. :crazy2: I might do it for a special occasion, but I would never, ever do it for vacation again.

I have tried it once and it was ok, but not any better than those gradual tanning moisturizers in my opinion and much more expensive. I use the Coppertone Gradual Tan moisturizing lotion. It gives me the look of a natural tan while drying quickly and not leaving a horrible odor behind. I use it every other day to every three days to maintain my color.

Just remember that there is NO protection in a spray tan. I have seen people go away and because they "look" tanned, they lie in the sun all day..:sad2: You have no base tan, so be very careful

Me either! I was in Cancun *ironically* looking for a loofah to use to scrub the rest of it off as it looked horrible after 7 days in the ocean and pool water and shaving. I'd do it for something that was a 1 day event but not for vacation or at least not as the only thing for vacation. Getting a base tan and then spraying might not be AS bad since you'd have some color underneath but I'd not do it on pure white skin but that could be my own hangup! ;)

I did it about 3 weeks ago, for a trip to Las Vegas(Nascar race). I loved it. Our cost in Central Indiana was $21.95 for 1 session. Would probably have done a 2nd session if I had time before we went. It lasted for about 10 days. Just didn't want to look like a ghost at the race track, but I thought it looked pretty natural.

Just don't forget to still use a sun block when you are out in the sun. I still burned the 2 days at the track(even with a spf45).

Be sure to follow the instructions they give you. You don't want to end up like Ross on Friends! :rotfl2:

I've tried it and it looked orange, fake and streaky. I just use the Jergen's natural glow daily moisturizer every day when I get out of the shower in place of my usual lotion. I start about this time of year and use it all summer. It builds gradually, only goes so dark, looks natural and is very easy to maintain (you have to use daily moisturizer here in the west anyway).

Even with this though, you have to exfoliate well (I spend some extra time with the scrunchy sponge in the shower on my elbows, knees and ankles) and be sure to wash your hands and use a nail brush immediately after applying. Other than that, it's just like using regular daily lotion.

I've done the Mystic Tan countless times BUT only for special occasions, where I'll be wearing a dress without hose. I would never do it for vacation. I looks like a spray tan, especially being out there in the sunlight, you will see every imperfection. Going in and out of pools/oceans, applying lotion and shaving will make the spray tan come off that much quicker and unevenly. Then when you scrub it off, you are back to being white again.

I suggest just going to the tanning salon - once or twice and this way you won't burn on vacation. I go to the beds - its a super duper monster one (have no idea of the name of the bed), but it just a 12 minutes session. I do that 2 times before a trip and its all the color I need.

IMO spray on tans are for when you will be in a dark room for the evening, then you need to exfoliate it off within the next day or 2.

The tan is nice when you first get it. However when it starts to fade it gets orange and streaky. Would not recommend it.

I always look a sickly shade of orangey-green (if that's possible) whenever I've been a doofus and used Mystic Tan.

I need to get out and work in the yard a little and get some sun on these lily-white legs, then start tanning once or twice a week for a month or so. I am like the above poster, I only go to the 12 minute "Extreme" bed every few days (often staying only 8 or 9 minutes, and ALWAYS with a towel over my face) instead of roasting 30 minutes a day in the Level 1 beds.

I hate the way self-tanner (even the gradual ones) smell on me. DH pitches the biggest fit when I put it on, it's so offensive.
