sprained ankle..questions help!!

I know this isn't a disney question although it might turn out to be related if I'm not better by our trip in May but last Thurs I sprained my ankle (hopefully thats it) and went to the ER and they put me in an aircast which ive had on until today when I went to see an orthopedic dr who insisted i get that big black darth vader walking cast that goes up to below my knee. Has anyone or has anyones family member or child had to use one of these things? When I wear it and walk around my toes cramp up and they like cut off the circulation in my feet and they go almost numb so should I only wear it when I will be walking long distances and use my aircast for around my dorm? It does help me walk but its so big and I dont want it to get my bed dirty if I am laying in my bed...some help would be great...thanks!!!!!

Yuck. I had to wear one years and years ago and I hated it. I only had to wear it while up...I could take it off to sleep and in the shower. It really does take a while for the sprain to heal and I'm sure the air cast doesn't give nearly the stability that the walking cast does. I would wear it like he suggested so that you're not limping later. Good luck and I hope you feel better.
