Spoodles, new menu

Thought I'd give this a bump to hear from others who have dined at Spoodles recently.

Sorry, I went away for a while as we had visiting company! We went to Spoodles in June (the 12th). We were not on a dining plan, and I'd happily pay full fare for anything this place had to offer. I was so impressed, I asked to speak to the chef. Chef Dan has been working there for several years and seems like a person who takes great pride in what he does. I can't imagine him telling anyone "no" for a request if it was in his power to grant. Here's my dining report that I posted on another board:

We've eaten in some wonderful places. But, I have to say out of all the restaurants we visited, Spoodles was the ultimate in food for my tastebuds.
A look at the menu shows tribute to the warm flavors of the Meditteranean (tastes I just love).
We started off with the appetizer I knew I was going to order three months out. The Grilled lamb skewers with tzaziki sauce and pita bread. Tzaziki sauce is basically yogurt with lots of garlic and lemon. This appetizer came with the lamb skewers, the tzaziki sauce, toasted pita wedges, and a sampling of flavored green and kalamata olives. It lived up to the anticipation. The lamb was tender and perfectly cooked, the tzaziki sauce cool and refreshing with a well-seasoned garlic bite, pita wedges had that great slightly charred flavor that hit it off with the sauce, and the olives were flavorful seasoned with fennel seed. Can't say enough about this!
In addition to the lamb skewers, we also ordered the Bruschetta flatbread. This was phenomenal! Pizza dough charred in their oven, topped with olive tapenade, the freshest, ripest red and yellow tomatoes, and creamy mozzarella cheese, garnished with young sprouts. Fabulous!
In short, I would trek from one end of WDW to other to get to this restaurant just for these two appetizers.
I must mention a few incidentals which added to this experience. First, the sangria. I enjoy sangria, having it in many places including Barcelona. When enjoying Meditteranean food, why not have a beverage that will complement the flavors of the region? The sangria used dry red wine, triple sec to sweeten it up just a tad, and then pieces of orange and a cherry for garnish. Great flavors!
Also, the bread and seasoned olive oil was wonderful to enjoy before the appetizers.
DH and I shared the Rigatoni which was mixed with a mild sausage and mushroom sauce. It was perfectly tender, creamy and just as good as everything else.
The server really enjoyed hearing our comments about the food and mentioned to the chef how we were enjoying it. Chef Dan appeared at our table and talked to us about the restaurant. He even likes it so much he will come on his day off and read the paper in the corner and have a bite to eat! He enjoys working there and it definitely shows. He was smiling and waving at little children the whole time.
By dessert, our server was sharing what he liked on the menu and went with his recommendation. The Mocha Creme Brulee is a dark complex chocolate coffee custard with a sugar crust. Presented in a coffee mug, it is topped with whipped cream and a chocolate coffee bean. Fabulous!
DS8 went with cheese flatbread and ate everything, and DS5 went with the PB&J with goldfish crackers. Our family gave Spoddles an A++++++++++++.
I have often heard other posters talk about a place that becomes a family tradition. This is our place!
I told Chef Dan we'd be back. He said he'd be there.

Please give Spoodles a chance to impress you. The food is absolutely outstanding. :flower:

just joining in this thread to see what everyone is saying as we have ADR @ spoodle's in OCT

I called Spoodles myself (there was another thread like this at the time.) and specifically asked. The hostess there was very kind.

From talking to her, the only thing that was gone from the menu on all ears was the pork chop.

She said the Gnocchi now comes with Vegies instead of the mushroom stuff listed on allears. Someone said on the thread you have to ask for vegetarian to get it. I didn't verify that post with the hostess. So indeed you may have to ask.

The rest remain.

The appetizers that are gone are the fried Calimari and the Mussels.

I didn't really ask about the deserts.

CMJ... TYTYTY. I had already decided to go anyway once I figured out everythiing I wanted to try was still there. But Dan still owes you a commission. HEHE.

We eat at Spoodles every trip to WDW, as our DVC "home" is at BWV. And in the half-dozen times I have eaten at Spoodles, nobody in my party has ever ordered an entrée. We just order the Tapas (appetizers), most or all of them, and make that the meal. What a wonderful experience that always is. Yum. I am sorry to see the demise of the Calamari and the Mussles, as we enjoyed both of those as recently as April. But I am sure that there will be equally lovely things on the menu when we go back in October; I don't imagine we'll be getting entrées then either.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We'll be enjoying dinner at Spoodles in less than 3 weeks!

.

Say it isn't so. My mom and I shared the calamari on our last visit (Jan with the dining plan) and decided it was one of, if not the best, we'd ever had. I was planning an AR this Sept. when we return just for the calamari, but now, who knows? 58 days and counting : :earsgirl: :earsgirl: princess:
