I never thought of SpongeBob as anything except a sponge. I don't think sponges have sexual orientation.

But if he was gay, who cares?

They did not say SpongeBob was gay but that he has a gay following. I can see that. I have also heard that SpongeBob is popular among college campuses too.

He is cute, I'll say that. It is no wierder a show than any of the other shows. In fact I think most shows are too sexualizing. SB has an absence of that so I think you can read what you want into it.
