**spoilers*** Lost Season Five **spoilers**

I agree. I thought that maybe the incident caused it. This show has turn my brain to mush also and I can't remember...but weren't Sawyer, Faraday and all of them traveling through time and they ended up stumbling upon the statue (from a distance) when it was still intact? What year was that?

You're right, I'd forgotten about that.

I never thought of this, but it makes SO MUCH sense--He must have taken over Christian's body when the first plane crashed--Now I just wonder how in the world he can take over a body!

He doesn't take it over, hence Locke's body in the crate. :thumbsup2

I think he is a shape shifter and can take the form of whomever, Locke, Dave, Christian and Echo's brother, he wants to.

Although it is entirely possible that both Jacob and Other Guy can do it. Sometimes the "dead people" we have seen have been helpful and other times they seem evil.

I don't think we've been told when the statue crumbled. Personally, I believe it crumbled when "The Incident" happened. That would mean that it was intact when Amy gave birth to Ethan.

That's what I was wondering, was the statue there in the 70's.

I'm wondering if the next time we see Richard, he is going to have aged significantly. They made a point of saying he stayed the way he was because Jacob let him.

I also don't understand why Jacob went back and saw Kate and Sawyer when they were kids. What significance does that have? Why does he visit any of them?

It's gonna be a long 7 months.

(I posted this on the non-spoiler thread but thought I'd post it here as well.)

My many and varied thoughts, post-finale, have led me to this...

Loophole Guy is an embodiment of Anubis (Egyptian god of the underworld) and Jacob is an embodiment of Sobek (Egyptian god of power, protection and fertility (life)...he has a crocodile head and is shown standing, holding an ankh...the statue on the island is Sobek). The hieroglyph in the temple showed Anubis with Smokey so if Loophole Guy is Anubis it would mean that he can control Smokey, which seems likely. So, to me, it seems like this is a Life vs. Death match between the two of them.

I was reading on MSN the recap of the show and I had an interesting thought.

Suppose the purpose of Jacob touching them was to transfer some of himself to them so that they can fight Other Guy.

We've heard in the past that a battle is coming and then last night Jacob says "they're coming". I think the light will end up being another shift in time and will bring all of the O6 together to fight an ultimate battle.

As for Desmond I think he is differant because of something OG said, that things always end the same way, with the newcomers fighting, corrupting and destroying. Desmond didn't do that and I am wondering if he ended up on the Island purely by accident, he wasn't supposed to, he just did.

Okay, two smallish points I want to make:

1. I think the guitar case was Charlie's.

2. I read speculation on another board that the loophole-guy is Jacob's brother and they were calling him Esau. Think about it. "Esau" is hairer than Jacob, just as in the bible. If you look carefully at them, they DO look like they could be brothers. Jacob even asks the other guy if he wants to eat, and he declines (remember, Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of food)...that last bit may be stretching it. But, it is an interesting theory.

Loophole guy called Jacob friend not brother.

I did find one thing that I thought was interesting. I thought that the statue looked Egyptian so I looked up Egyptian gods on wikipedia and found one called Sobek. Sobek is a god that has the body of a human and the head of a crocodile. He was the the god who controlled the waters and protected other gods and he is often seen holding an ankh which is the sybol for eternal life that the statue is holding in both hands. I think it could be that god or maybe Taweret which means the one who is great and represents fertility as wel as having an evil counterpart but it is a female. But I have no idea what the creators are actually going for.

On another note the episode was just crazy, I can't believe they ended it right where they did. I also think there is a religious theme with Jacob being God (especially when he was talking about free will and based on the speech Ben was making) and the dark haired guy was the devil (visually referenced when they were on the island at the beginning anf Jacob was in a white shirt and the other guy was in a black shirt). I think this was a really great season finale and I can believe we have to wait until January for new episodes.

I just think that was the writers way of keeping us guessing. If Jacob had called Dark Man brother it would give away who he is. I agree with ptrbryant about the Jacob/Esau theory. There is a lot about this on Lostpedia. I'll post some later when I get a chance.

And, of course, Desmond calls his friends "brother"...if you look carefully at the actors, they reall do look like they could be brothers. It seems like it had to be a casting decision for a reason.

Karla B.

Has anyone posted that LH guy and the smokey could be the same guy? That the smokey turned into Alex and thats prob who has been Locke.

Okay, so I finally got a chance to look some stuff up on biblical Jacob and Esau....

  • Jacob and his twin brother, Esau were born to Isaac and Rebecca.

  • Rebecca received a prophecy that twins were fighting in her womb and would continue to fight all their lives. The prophecy also said that the older would serve the younger; its statement "one people will be stronger than the other" has been taken to mean that the two nations would never gain power simultaneously: when one fell, the other would rise, and vice versa.

  • The boys displayed very different natures as they matured. "Esau became a hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a simple man, a dweller in tents."

  • Jacob experienced a vision of a ladder or staircase reaching into heaven with angels going up and down it, commonly referred to as "Jacob's ladder". From the top of the ladder he heard the voice of God, who repeated many of the blessings upon him.

  • In all three - Hebrew, Muslim, and Christian interpretations, Jacob’s ladder can be considered as a bridge between two worlds… a connection between God and Man.

So, could the island be Jacob's ladder? The bridge between Heaven and Earth? That might explain the "magical" properties that the island has displayed.

Dh thinks the fade to white was another time shift too.

I think it was just the white from the Atomic Bomb....anytime you see an atomic bomb the flash of light is always white.

I think they did that to let us know that the bomb indeed did go off and the next season it will show us what the ramifications of that will be.

I agree with you.

I also think the guitar was Charlie's.....

Supposedly, on ABC's recap, it says the statue is Taweret. If that is indeed true, I think there might still be some legs left for Juliet as T. is the goddess of fertility. It seems like that whole plotline was dropped. Obviously Jughead caused all of these problems, but it would be nice if they brought it back.

The statue is definitely not Taweret.

Taweret is the goddess of fertility. The statue is clearly a man, hence the short skirt.. He also has a crocodile's head, making him Sobek.

Tell that to ABC then.

. The camera pulls back over the ocean, and we see they were sitting on the base of a giant stone foot. And next to the foot is another foot -- and both feet have four toes. And as the camera pulls back, we see what we've been waiting to see since we first glimpsed that four-toed foot over three years ago... the towering, majestic statue of the Egyptian goddess Taweret. And we clearly know we're a long time ago, so let's get the finale of season five started --

I origianlly thought it was Sobek too, but after digging a bit more I think it could be either one. Sobek is shown with an ankh in one hand and a staff in another while Tawaret has ankhs in each hand. The Lost statue has two ankhs, which lends itself to being Tawaret. Tawaret has a hippo's head but the Lost statue looks like it is a crocodile's head so that makes it seem like Sobek. Each of them is the god/goddess of child-bearing (Tawaret - Childbirth, Sobek - Fertility) so the both fit with all that has gone on.
