**spoilers*** Lost Season Five **spoilers**

I origianlly thought it was Sobek too, but after digging a bit more I think it could be either one. Sobek is shown with an ankh in one hand and a staff in another while Tawaret has ankhs in each hand. The Lost statue has two ankhs, which lends itself to being Tawaret. Tawaret has a hippo's head but the Lost statue looks like it is a crocodile's head so that makes it seem like Sobek. Each of them is the god/goddess of child-bearing (Tawaret - Childbirth, Sobek - Fertility) so the both fit with all that has gone on.
I agree. It could be either one. We won't know with certainty until we get the full frontal.:lmao:From the angles we have seen it could definitely be either one. Of course, I'm no egyptologist. So, I don't know if there is some significance to the things that we have seen to indicate one is more likely than the other.

But when you take into account that the statue is of a man, and is not a pregnant hippo, It becomes clearer.

I do wish we could get a full frontal picture, though.

Here is a picture of the statue:

maybe the reason they havent shown the front of the statue is so we cannot see the pregnant part...to keep us guessing

i found this on another lost site and they compare the Tarewet to the statue on the island

You've posted before that the statue is a man. I'm curious to know how you know that? What do you see in this picture that indicates that the statue is a man?

IMO, from the shoulders down it could easily be a man or a woman. And from what I am reading, Taweret is often depicted as a pregnant woman with a full, pregnant abdomen, pendulous breasts and long, human hair. Since we can't see the front, and the arm is blocking view of breast and belly from this angle, I can't rule out that this is Taweret.

The length of the skirt. Women were never depicted in short skirts.

So we have 3 options:
1. The statue is not Taweret, or any other goddess.
2. Someone in the props department screwed up.
3. They are being intentionally ambiguous.

:thumbsup2Ding ding ding...I think we have a winner.:lmao:

Okay, so I finally got a chance to look some stuff up on biblical Jacob and Esau....

  • Jacob and his twin brother, Esau were born to Isaac and Rebecca.

  • Rebecca received a prophecy that twins were fighting in her womb and would continue to fight all their lives. The prophecy also said that the older would serve the younger; its statement "one people will be stronger than the other" has been taken to mean that the two nations would never gain power simultaneously: when one fell, the other would rise, and vice versa.

  • The boys displayed very different natures as they matured. "Esau became a hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a simple man, a dweller in tents."

  • Jacob experienced a vision of a ladder or staircase reaching into heaven with angels going up and down it, commonly referred to as "Jacob's ladder". From the top of the ladder he heard the voice of God, who repeated many of the blessings upon him.

  • In all three - Hebrew, Muslim, and Christian interpretations, Jacob’s ladder can be considered as a bridge between two worlds… a connection between God and Man.

So, could the island be Jacob's ladder? The bridge between Heaven and Earth? That might explain the "magical" properties that the island has displayed.

This is AWESOME! Thank you for posting this!!

I really don't think the show is going to end up as being all about one religion, but a combination of things from multiple religions--hence using the Old Testament stuff plus the Egyptian stuff. It's all good vs evil...
:thumbsup2Ding ding ding...I think we have a winner.:lmao:
ITA

I posted this on the other thread but I just want to say that I've really enjoyed sharing the season with all of you!

I agree. I think the show is more about good vs evil, than one particular religion or belief. Black vs White has been an ongoing theme on this show. I have a feeling we will all be blown away with how this shows ends. I can hardly wait!

Thanks! It has been a pleasure for me as well. It's hard to believe this show is almost over.:sad1:

Ace of Cakes is running the LOST cake again right now :)
It is a very cool episode!

If the bomb exploding has changed the future, then we don't even know that Charlie is dead in the future. Because this has now all happened before Charlie even died.

I really, really hope they bring Charlie back for at least one episode next season. He has been my favorite character since the beginning of Lost.

Was Jacobs cabin actually Rose and Bernards that we seen earlier--It looked like it--But if it was that would mean that Loophole Guy was trapped in it after 1977.

I believe Jacob saved Sayid when his wife died--had he not distracted Sayid both he and his wife would've been hit by the car and killed

It very well could have been Loophole Guy in the cabin who escaped when the ash line was broken. Since he his evil or bad he it would make since that he would freak out or be disturbed by the sight of light. Right?

I also believe that Jacob saved Sayid.

But Amy was able to give birth to Ethan in the '70s, so the fertility problems came after that. That statue crumbled a long time before then.

I think the fertility problems came about because of the radiation released when Juliette detonated the bomb. The time frame would work and it also makes sense that they would have Juliette come to the island to treat the women since she was doing work treating the fertility problems of women (particularly her sister) who had undergone radiation therapy.

That makes Juliette responsible for the very problem she was brought to the island to treat. That seems very "lost-ish" to me.

The way Ben answered the question about the statue made it sound like the statue was fully in tact when he came to the island. Maybe I misunderstood, but it sounded that way to me. It seemed like he was saying he has seen or been involved in the statue being partially destroyed.

Remember the couple found in the cave very early in Lost? Was it a man and a woman? I can't remember? I do remember something about black and white stones. Did the stones represent good and evil? Or did they represent Bernard and Rose if they were male and female?

My husband is messing with me! He doesn't even know I made this post about wanting Charlie back for at least one show next season. He just told me in a real excited voice that they have brought Charlie back on Lost. I told him he was full of it. Some channel is playing an episode from January of 2006.

Thanks for sharing that info and video!!!

I sure hope it's true!!!!

Why would they do that if it weren't though?? :confused3

Especially what was said to each other....what was Charlie's response? Sounded like "actually, I wasn't". Is that what he said?

This makes me think everyone who died will come back somehow, maybe because of what the Losties did at the end of the show!
