OK, I've decided that DVC has absolutely ruined me for all other accomodations.

Currently on "road trip" with DH who is doing series of tax seminars across Missouri. He teaches a seminar in a different town every day starting mid week last week and ending this Friday. Except for last weekend (when we got to stay put for a couple of days), we have stayed in a different hotel every night. These are not fleabags, but Ramadas, Drury, Holiday Inn, etc.

Wednesday - room fine, coffeemaker, DSL access. No hot tub as it was outside and closed. No business center available when my laptop acted up.
Thursday- advertised DSL not available as it "has been down for about 10 days and we don't know when it can get fixed"
Friday thru Saturday - room OK, mini fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, DSL, business center. Until Sat nite when the weddings moved in. Kids running overhead and down the halls until 3 am. Someone playing touch football in room overhead ( I think). Couple with 5 kids crammed in room nearby making tons of noise. Calls to desk of no avail.
Sunday- no obvious problems
Monday - room so small one of us had to sit on bed if the other walked across the room
Tuesday- room very shabby. peeled paint, mold on shower curtain (ughh!!). One electric outlet not working.

Not really looking forward to the rest of the week. Really gives you a new outlook on DVC quality and not complaining about the little things.

We turned out the same way...5 years ago we'd have found the Hotel Royal Plaza to be nice, especially at the mouse savers price..now we just find it to be barely acceptable.

Future trips we'll probably just pay points for our first night in town rather than run the risk of being stuck in anything other than a 1BR. :-)

I agree with you totally, but I prefer to not think of it as being spoiled, but as having more discriminating taste...princess: :snooty: :magnify: and I think this is a good thing.

A week after our first trip home to BCV (only 2 nights) we ended up staying at All Stars Sports after our cruise. What a come down. I said to my dh-- this is okay, but I wouldn't want to come back, and then I felt like such a snob. :( I don't think I would be as particular about a non-Disney hotel, but DVC has definitely ruined me for staying at any non-deluxe.

OK, you want to hear spoiled behavior?! I complained to DH for the first two days when we transferred over to AKL!! It was a regular sized room, for Heaven sake's, but I was just upset at the small size of the room:) We used to think Holiday Inn was a NICE hotelprincess: How embarrassing!

Yeah, but did you get the views you wanted at those Ramada's??

And I'll bet you got in your room right away!! :p :p

To date: 4 views of parking lot, 1 view of Interstate. You're right, though, we did get in the room immediately.

This reminds me of a recent non-Disney experience we had so I could definitely relate to what you are saying! :) It made us realize that we need to buy DVC and stick with Disney. If you care to read, here is what I posted a few months ago on another DIS forum:

ºOº Reflections of a Non-Disney Bahamian Vacation ºOº

My husband and I recently spent 4 days and 3 nights at an all- inclusive resort in Nassau. This Resort is a well-known chain of all- inclusives. Let's just say that based on some reasons I will list below, we will probably be very hesitant in the future about spending money on a vacation that has not in some way been "Disney-approved." And in many ways, we are SO SPOILED by our treatment by Disney that it is difficult for any others to live up to our expectations.

1 - The Resort was dirty and not well-kept. Our room was worn, dirty, stinky, grimy, etc. We were scared to walk around without shoes on and I think I may have used an entire can of Lysol! There was no way that the housekeepers were as meticulous as the mousekeepers or cabin stewards --God bless the Mousekeepers & Stewards and all that they do because they are MARVELOUS! There was garbage around the resort that would have normally been picked up as soon as it was dropped at a Disney locale. Eeew.

2 - I now have new appreciation for those working for tips -- they
want to please you and they want to make you happy. That is how they will earn their money. At this particular all-inclusive tips were not accepted in any form so they pretty much didn't care if they were nice to you at all. In many cases they were rude. Made me very sad.

3 - Disney entertainment can't be beat. Although me and my husband are younger (28 & 31 yrs) without children, we now realize that we have NO INTEREST in drinking until we drop and partying until the sun comes up. The Resort was strictly 18+ and was centered around the partying-atmosphere. We tried, though...we really did. We tried to join in the fun and entertainment EVERY night, but ended up bored out of our skulls by 10pm. We ended up making our own fun in our dirty, grimy, filthy room (get your mind out of the gutter, that's not what
I'm saying).

4 - The food here was pretty good but the buffet was no
Topsiders/Beach Blanket Buffet! I really really REALLY missed having someone place my napkin on my lap and pull out my chair for me to sit. In fact, I expressed this to my husband and he was nice enough to accomodate those missing dining perks at every meal. He's so good to me!

ºOºThe highlight of our trip was taking a waverunner out of Cable
Beach to peek around and see the Wonder docked! It was so awesome to see her, but SO SAD because we wished we were on her!ºOº

Overall, we really did try...we were SO nice and friendly every day
at every moment and instance during this vacation to all who were around us. We were definitely not rude in any way. In fact, we tried to be friendly and happy to the staff in the hopes that they would catch on. I can't tell you how many times I smiled and said 'please' and 'thank you very much!' I am not looking to be attacked here, this is merely our reflections of our time at this one Resort. I am not saying that EVERY resort of the non-Disney nature would be like this but we are not going to spend more money to find out. Why should we when Disney is a sure thing? When we are ready to see the rest of the world, we will do so as DVC members. This trip has ensured that Disney fun is definitely for us.

Thank you for all that have read my comments!
