Splitting meals

I'm sure this has been asked somewhere before but I couldn't find it. So, as some of you may have read another post of mine, I am trying to plan a surprise mother/daughter trip for my mom and I May 2-6, woohoo! I am not going to do the dining plan because mom and I are such light eaters. I know that some portions in Disney are soooo big, that we could probably split and still not finish! My question is, will most all restaurants (except buffets of course :rotfl: ) let us split a main dish? Do they charge extra to split? Will we get less than cheery looks from the waitstaff if we split? Sorry for all the questions, but I know you guys will know!! ;)

Well, we do it on a regular basis, { DW and myself} are never charged extra, and have yet to get a "dirty" look. I would suppose others have had different experiences, though.

DH and I split all the time and never get charged extra. We typically leave a little extra in the tip because we know we're not spending as much but the waitstaff is still working hard. We're not huge eaters so splitting works very well for us.

Thanks guys, I will of course still tip as if two orders were ordered- no need for the waitstaff to suffer from us small eaters :goodvibes

I'm sure that sometimes we will both get meals, but the pasta dishes everywhere are always just sooo big!! Plus, then we will have room for dessert- the best part of any meal

DH and I split all the time, either with each other or each of us with a kid. Never had any problems, at Concourse they'll even split the plates for you in the kitchen if you desire! :)

Never a problem - in the past, they had split things in the back for us ahead of time though this trip they did not (probably bc it was free dining and they were extra busy).

Ashley, this could have been my exact post! LOL I'm taking my mom to WDW in December for a short 4 day trip and I was wondering the same thing! We are very light eaters and would prefer splitting an appetizer/entree than ordering a lot of food we just won't eat. I know at home, many places charge a split fee or you get the dreaded semi-dirty look from a server when you try to do this. Plus, by splitting, we get to save room for all the yummy snacks everywhere in WDW. LOL

Happy Planning for your mom-daughter trip! :)
