Split Stays/Groceries no longer refrigerated

I bring along an insulated back-pack and carry my refrigerated items to the next resort and hand them over to bell services to keep cold the rest of the day. It is a pain, but not a huge issue. BTW, Aldi has insulated backpacks, smallish ones, on-sale for $9.99.

We've done that and it works well. We can always get ice to add in the cooler at the resort we're leaving....!

We've been doing split stays in August recently and I gotta say as much as I love Disney (even before they started whittling down the 'magic' post-COVID) I don't think I'd want to trust my milk/eggs/etc. being properly stored in the heat as they are transferred from my resort to the next. I know once the packages arrived they'd be refrigerated but still...so we end up creating two grocery orders. We will give them the non-perishables and just rebuy the fridge/frozen items. Besides, I'm going to need a few more things anyway. Piece of mind.

I can understand how this change is disappointing, also understand why such a decision was made.

I’ve read reports of WDW giving money back for $1,000+ loss on medication to comps for mishandled groceries. We may know how to properly pack up our goods… doesn’t mean everybody does. The practice left WDW open to unreasonable complaints. That probably got to the point of outweighing the positive and goodwill.

Just think, somebody doesn’t properly put the cap back on their quart yogurt drink and they get mad their groceries did not arrive in good condition, and, the other people who had yogurt spilled on their stuff aren’t happy either. Nobody on WDW’s end did anything wrong in the transfer yet multiple people want compensation.

Who was demanding? It was a legitimate question that the cast member and most did not have an answer to as they were all new. Many people lost their jobs working for the Parks in the area during covid. Not all were hired back.

In 2022 when the Parks opened up and I went down I had no issue with keeping groceries refrigerated within a resort when changing a room but I did not know the policy was modified for between resorts. After all you can and many people do have Garden grocery or Instacart deliveries to the resorts and they will refrigerate items. The key takeway is they would NOT transport them anymore as they said it was due to Covid and perhaps catching something.

It's not like it is on the DVC member website or any website so I did not have to 'ask' anyone. Disney is a very large corporation that can easily write a document to post and keep on a website. It's not hard or difficult. When you don't have that - then you have to ask.

The post was meant to provide information for families that plan and think of split stays.

As someone who rents out points - I now warn families considering split stays of this change in policy especially those having refrigerated medication or special food needs requiring refrigeration etc.
Who was demanding? YOU WERE. You even state that the cast members didn't know because they were new. I doubt Disney trains any of the "new" staff about policies that have been changed prior them them being employed. That would be like someone getting a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt asking a police officer when did wearing a seatbelt become mandatory.

Yes it was put into place during Covid so yes years now. However you won't find it written anywhere and it is not on the dvc website or in a question/answer box.

If you have a vehicle - great. However many of us who travel from further distances do not have vehicles. I certainly know people who stay on property for more than 30 days who would like their refrigerated items transferred.

This is just a nice to know as I tend to recommend split stays but in this case for larger families or reunions I would not unless you had transportation.
This is not something that is specifically related to DVC, though. It falls under the resort division and bell services rules.
But we do split stays all the time and simply now use Lyft when we have refrigerated items to move.

Thank you for sharing your experience so anyone who may not be aware is now.
