If you plan on doing split stays and one person in your party has an AP, can you add DxDp to each of the split stays and purchase 10 day park hoppers for the other guests to cover the whole trip without buying tickets for each resort leg of the trip? TIA

Yes, AP holders staying on either an AP rate or paying rack rate for their room can add the dining plans for everyone in the room without buying any tickets.

The split stay portion doesn't factor in other than you would have to buy 2 separate dining plans, one for each part of the stay - but it wouldn't change the price or anything else.

So how does the rule about purchasing tickets for free dining factor in?
The Free Dining Plan promotion requires a minimum ticket purchase to take advantage of. It doesn't matter if you're doing split stays, have APs, or aren't planning on visiting any parks. If you want to get in under the Free Dining Plan promotion, you have to buy those tickets.

For split-stays, you have to purchase the minimum tickets for EACH segment. The same holds true even if purchasing a plan (unless you fall into the exceptions, which are AP holders and DVC members), you have to purchase the minimum ticket requirement for each segment of the stay to qualify for the dining plan at all. The only change is the exceptions and the minimum length of the ticket.
