Am currently scheduled for a week-long stay at BLT in January. We were planning on arriving a couple days early and spending that time with family nearby, and to make a long story short, it's now apparent that we may need to do that family visit in the middle of the trip rather than before we check in.

What I was considering doing was to check in, spend a few days at Disney, check out, go to the coast for a couple days, then check back in and wrap up our trip at Disney. I think I'm fine in terms of park tickets, because they should stay valid throughout the duration of both stays, but how does that work with respect to our KTTW cards? Would we have one card for the entire stay, or would we get a new one upon check in.

More importantly, anyone see any problem I'm not seeing with doing it this way?

It would be two separate reservations if you check out, go away for a few days and then return for another stay. Your first KTTW would expire at the end of your first stay. You would get a new one at the start of your second stay.

You can use your expiring tickets for 14 days. After that, they expire unless you purchase no expiring. Or you have APs.

I assume the fact that I have days remaining stays in Disney's system, and they get linked back up with my new KTTW card when I check back in?

If you mean your ticket, no, it doesn't "stay in Disney's system". Your remaining admissions will be on the old KTTW. And you may or may not be able to move them to the new KTTW. I think they might only move tickets once, but I'm not sure. We usually get APs and they are the tyvek-type material ticket and not put on the KTTW.

Admissions stay on whatever media they are on unless they can be moved to new media. Disney doesn't track them.

I could be wrong, but you can't just drop days in the middle of your reservation. You would actually be required to shorten the first stay and re-book the second stay. And, I believe you would then be subject to current availability. ETA: Maybe they would let you if you called and put it in segments first.

Yeah, I know, that's actually what I meant with the original post. I already spoke with DVC and confirmed that I can just lop a few days off of the first reservation and book another stay a few days beforehand, but I forgot to ask them about the ticket thing.

thx for the input, everyone.
