Split Stay Transportation

I'm considering doing a split stay for January. I've never done a split before and have some questions. I know that bell services will take your luggage to the next resort but I'm not comfortable with that. I would rather take my luggage and settle in to the new resort and then go to the parks. We are considering a 12 day stay so there is not problem getting to the parks late in the day. Is there transportation provided by Disney to next resort (not cab or Uber)? If I do decide to have Disney handle my luggage, how long do you usually have to wait for your luggage to arrive at your next resort?

You can hire a Minnie Van (via the Lyft app) to take you from resort to resort with your luggage. I believe it is $25 one-way. There is no bus that goes from resort to resort.

If you decide to have Disney handle your luggage, you would need to be in your room before they will deliver it. But it would take at least until 3 or 4 pm to get it.

No, there is no resort to resort transport. Outside of uber/lyft/cab/minnie van, without your own car, you would have to take a bus from the resort you are leaving over to either Disney Springs or a nearby park and hop on the other resort bus you are headed to which depending how much luggage you have would be a colossal pain in the butt and TBH I question if that is even allowed as I've never seen anyone do it and a lot of times there is very little space on the buses for ppl let alone luggage.

When you let the CM handles your luggage, you should go about your day at the parks and plan for it be there when you return at approx 4pm or so (from what we've been told). We drive in so we bring our luggage to the next resort and leave it at the desk if our rooms not ready yet and go about our day.

Some routes may require you to transfer buses. No luggage or alcohol of any type is permitted on Walt Disney World Resort buses. All strollers must be folded and stowed out of the aisle. Medical strollers for Guests with disabilities will be treated as wheelchairs.

You either need to use a taxi/Uber/Lyft/Minnie Van/rental car or have Disney transfer the luggage while you take buses.

Totally makes sense as why I've never seen it done. We have always driven so we've never had to use the luggage service but they do it all day everyday of the year so I'd venture to guess that they are fairly good at it. I've yet to see any major issues with luggage moves on the boards other than the sheer fact that it does take a long time.

I’ve always preferred to transfer my luggage myself so on moving day I’m packed and ready to go bright and early. I take a cab (you can request a taxi van, no extra cost) to new resort and check in early. Sometimes room is ready, sometimes not. If your room isn’t ready leave luggage with Bell Service and grab a quick breakfast at the quick service and hop on the park bus.

We are going to be in a similar situation. I didn't think of using a Minnie Van. Do they pick up at the Dolphin?

Yes with the recent expansion of the Minnie Van service, both the Swan & Dolphin are now served by Minnie vans.

Luggage transfer is done once a day at about 3 PM. As stated earlier it will not be placed in your room before you arrive. You will have to call for it when you are in the room. Only DME Luggage is delivered directly

If you bring your own luggage there your room may not even be ready to settle in to anyways. Check out is 11, late check out is 1, and check in starts at 3 or 4.
