Split Stay NYE

So I've read how crazy it is on NYE but we are willing to give it a try (did Vegas on year and had a great time). So this year we are going to try Epcot for NYE. I've heard getting out of the park afterwards takes hours so I wonder if moving to a walkable resort is worth the added expense.

Right now I have 5 days booked at the POR FQ- would it be worth splitting that stay to 3 days at FQ and 2 at the Beach club for NYE so we can walk back after NYE? We leave on 1/1 so we could have a brunch at Cape May before we go (as opposed to taking transportation from FQ for our last meal)- cost is an issue otherwise we would stay at the Yacht club for the entire trip. But if its worth the added expense to walk out of Epcot in an hour rather than wait 2 hours for a bus, I might be willing to spend the money.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The bolded above can only truly be answered by you. Having said that, it would be worth it to me. But I can't answer that for you. :thumbsup2

If you can afford it I'd do it. We did NYE at Epcot two eves ago and arranged it so we could get in and out via the International Gateway. Easy peasy. We never saw the front of the park at the end of the night, but I'm sure it was a nightmare after a long night. Waiting for a bus or getting in a car in the lot and dealing with traffic (lots of traffic) is worth avoiding. While everyone else is battling the frustration you can stop at any one of a bunch of places around the BW/S&D/Y&B promenade to relax with a beverage of choice and continue the revelry!

If you aren't Magical Express dependent, Swan/Dolphin could also be a cheaper option there.

Thanks everyone I appreciate your input.

I can look into staying at one of the all stars for the first 3 days- that lowers the cost as well. I keep crunching the numbers....

We stayed at BC NYE '13 and POFQ '15 and enjoyed both. We did BC the first time because of the fear of getting to our room. After midnight we headed back and went straight to room which was nice. In 2015 having been there before and to save money we stayed at POFQ. After midnight/illuminations we hung for just about 20 minutes and finished our drinks and it was a little overwhelming watching all the people heading toward the exit and then we headed out with no problem. Some stopped in future world for the DJ but it wasn't bottlenecked to get out. We only waited for a few minutes for bus, actually there was buses everywhere coming and going, then shortly we were at hotel. Also we got a seat on the bus and I don't remember anyone standing. POFQ was not sharing a bus with POR so with POFQ being a smaller resort I guess not as many people on bus. Also that year POFQ did their own NYE celebration in lobby so I think some people stayed at resort. If I did NYE again, which I hope to, I would love to stay there again.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Its helpful to make the decision- which I havent done yet. Because I dont know which one I want to do. I know its not a big deal in the end, we'll have a great time either way. Im just obsessing :bored:

Welcome to the DIS, obsessing is what we do here!

So I've stopped obsessing and made the change. We will now do a split stay. I was going to switch PORFQ to A All star but we decided to keep at and move to the Beach club for NYE.

With the resort change done, now Im off to obsess about dining and FP's.....

You made a good decision, we just did our 1st NYE this past year at Epcot. We are usually off season people, but we LOVED it! We were staying at BWV and it was so easy leaving and continuing the party at the Boardwalk! There was a lot of drink stands put up for the night and lots of people walking around and music playing on the Boardwalk after Epcot closed. We positioned our family around France with a good viewing area about 3-4 hrs before the big fireworks show and took turns getting drinks and snacks. We were able to sit on the ground and enjoy the atmosphere till closer to time. Even though it was shoulder to shoulder people everyone was having such a good time and the cast members were especially fun during this time! I don't think I would have liked trying to leave the park with an unbelievable amount of people and taking hours to get back to room. Word of advice when you see a bathroom with a line that is not too bad use it even if you really don't have to and get a dinner reservation fairly early in the evening.
