Split stay lovers?

We own at both resorts too. We planned this trip to Disney too late to stay at AKV Kidani this trip. We booked in April so in order to get a full week we had to go with SSR. We love SSR too....because we like going to DTD and I think SSR is close to the DHS and EC too. At least it didn't see as far to get there when we drove. :goodvibes

It's hard to get what you want when you plan your trip on short notice. Sometimes folks wind up having to do splits when it isn't what they really want to do. We always plan 11 mos out not that we have never needed to reschedule. That's why we have never stayed at AKV. The times we booked it, we had to reschedule and it was no longer available. Good thing we love SSR.:wizard: This time we are not rescheduling and are doing it as a split with SSR because we are going for 10 days. I think when you are in the double digits in terms of vacation days, a two resort vacation wouldn't be such a hassle.

We always drive and think SSR is really centrally located. It takes no time to get to Epcot and DHS from SSR. We felt like BLT and AKV were a little far from other places but still great locations. We are driving up from home (Illinois) this trip.:drive:

Stop me!!!!

No.

I think that THV/SSR is a great split, especially if you just want to try THV to see if you will like it there and already know you like SSR.:wizard:

I suspect most of you who LOVE split stays and "do them all the time" are actually fairly new owners (i.e. less than 5 years). For those of us who have been around awhile and know what resorts we prefer, a split stay just means more work and less vacation.

Occationally we will do a couple nights in a concierge room at one end of our trip (front or back). If it's at the begining, it's easy to pack things for those first few days on top and not unpack the rest until we settle in at our longer term destination. When the short stay is at the end of a trip, I can do that in reverse, but not nearly as easily. I really don't want to completely pack up my Owner's Locker, because I know I will want things from it yet, so it's just too much extra work.

That's just it...we do know what resorts we prefer (BCV, AKL, & now BLT as well) and we usually let each kid pick a resort. As a previous poster said, each resort is a new vacation for us.

We don't find split stays to be work at all and they definitely don't mean "less vacation" for us. We always make our check-in day a pool day. We wear our suits/coverups over, check-in, & hang by the pool (something we do EVERY afternoon anyway) until our room is ready. It also helps that we ALWAYS have our own vehicle with us.

*I guess some may consider us "newbies", although I don't...members since 2006 with almost a dozen weeks of DVC vacations taken already. :)

We used to love split stays - just check my signature! Reasons were to be closer to parks (closer drive time, walk or monorail), different pools (hopping with kids is a pain) and to break up the trip as we go for 2 weeks at a time.

This past trip though, we had issues with Bell Services, Front Desk and housekeeing as rooms weren't ready until 4:00 or shortly after. This was just not acceptable. We had become used to usually getting into our rooms much earlier. At SSR, our last 3 trips have seen us receive our room @ 9:00 am!

This trip just killed our split stay preference. We will do just 2 resorts now, as we go for approx. 11-13 days each summer. Or, we'll do WDW/Vero or WDW/HHI.

No more multiple resorts - even with being there almost 2 weeks, it gets crazy with 3 or 4 resorts (not to mention our drive down and back hotels on the highway) as there are luggage issues and grocery issues. This threw us off for an entire day!

We have stayed everywhere on property, both DVC and non-DVC, except for: GF, BLT (but stayed Contemporary 2x) and THV. So, we know the resorts well, as we spend lots of time at each one on each trip.

We want to check in the 1st night to our resort, settle in and go! No more cash night the 1st night either - waste of time!

Now, since we have 2 home resorts with 185 and 175 points each, we have to make 2 bookings at 11 months, as we do 1 beds, and then hopefully @ 7 months, we can get 1 resort for our whole stay.

Looking forward to 1 resort next year @ WDW, and possibly Vero for a few days after!

I agree....... and if you were to go do Disney the entire time.....because you guys go for a long trip every summer....I could see you doing a split at two Disney places..although you have to stop coming and going right from Canada? Hmmmm maybe not then.

You are still a newbie!!! ;) Yes the way you split does work out for you guys. I didn't like last year's split when we did Poly, BCV and AKV. We needed more nights at AKV. I just don't want to split anymore with only 3 days at a resort. That is not enough time. We did WAY TOO MANY SPLITS THIS TRIP. Never ever again will I do that. :scared1::scared1: We used to NEVER split trips before DVC. We always just booked a resort and stayed there. This trip was 5 moves.

I agree that it is because we know what we prefer that we love split stays. As a newbie, I never wanted to go anywhere that I didn't trust I was going to love. After several trips through the years at the same resort, we were ready to venture out but always want SSR to remain in the mix. We love AKV as much as SSR and don't want to choose right now, so we are doing a split.

As far as 3 and 4 way splits, we would never do those unless we had some real serious vacation time. I can't be at a resort for 3 days then move then 2 days and move etc. That kind of split stay seems like a lot of work though there are people that really enjoy doing 3 even more resorts a trip. My maximum is 2 resorts. If we ever did 3 or more resorts in the course of 7 or 8 days I'd be hollering no more split stays from the roof tops I'm sure. We've been members since 2003 so it's actually been 7 years for us. I guess that could be considered newbie to those who have been members since the 90's.

Yes, this is what I meant. Our limit will be 2 resorts for a long summer trip. And, you are right, we still have a hotel on the drive down, and back home, so even with 1 Disney hotel, that's 3 different hotels. Better than 7 like on this trip!:scared1:

Exactly!!! We had 4 resorts but 5 room types. :scared1::scared1::scared1: Almost right there with you!!!!!!

YES SIR!!!! My eyes are WIDE OPEN to split stays. SO next time I start my crazy TALKING OF THIS AND THAT.............PLEASE REMIND ME. :thumbsup2

I definitely will remind you!:thumbsup2

I have proclaimed myself your Vice President of the no more Split Stay Club! Although, 2 resorts @ Disney or WDW/Vero or WDW/HHI doesn't count, as we don't have enough points at each resort to book 1 resort @ 11 month window.

We have been very lucky the past few years in getting what we want at 7 months, but we might not always be that lucky. Although, I'm sure we can always get SSR as it's huge, and we love staying there!

Yep I agree too....... splits with the beach resorts don't count...ONLY WDW. If we were to go to WDW for 10+ days I would consider a split....

The year we did 8 at OKW and 5 at BCV we were fine with the change. Afterwards we wished we had done 7 and 7. We really love BCV.

You mean my 2 resorts at WDW don't count! I'm not a split stay lover? I guess I'd better get over to the I don't like split stays thread since I would only do splits under stringent conditions which you've just made me aware don't really count as splits.

Is it a split or isn't it. You can't have it both ways. I think there a split stays and then there are psycho split stays with 3 resorts in 3 days and 5 in 7 etc.:scared1:

I agree that an even split is better. I had our THV/AKV split 6 THV, 4 AKV but decided to do it 5 and 5 because we know we love AKV as much as SSR and it will feel like a full vacation at both. Plus 4 days just doesn't feel like enough for me at any resort.:wizard::scared1:
