Split Stay/Dining Plan Question--Help!

This is my first time planning a Disney trip--I've only been once before and someone else took care of all the details. Of course I had to jump in with both feet and decide to do a Grand Gathering...

Anyway, currently I have:

2 nights BCV--2 rooms, total of five adults, three kids
6 nights AKV--2 rooms, total of eight adults, four kids

Everyone who will be at BCV will be moving over to AKV.

We're defintely planning to do the dining plan. Chances are it won't save us much money, but it will certainly save us a lot of hassle.

I'm told that we have to book two separate dining plans---A two-day plan for when we're at BCV and a six-day plan for when we're at AKV.

I've been working on our ADRs, and I realized that unless I go Deluxe for the BCV stay, I have too many table meals booked for those first two days. So my question is this---for Monday (which is the day we leave BCV and check into AKV) can we use a combo of both plans? Do I need to get checked in at AKV to activate that dining plan?

If I decide to get the deluxe plan for the BCV stay, do I have until midnight on the checkout day to use up all the credits? So could I use up the rest of the credits, say, at Boma after I've already checked in at AKV?

Reading this over, it sounds really confusing, but I'm hoping it makes perfect sense to someone here.

Thanks!

You will need to check-in at AKV to activate that plan. As far as the logistics of splitting up the meals so some can be billed to the DVC plan and some to the AKV plan, it should work...but you never know "for sure."

You will be able to use both plans on the changeover meal including for a single meal. You will likely need separate checks if it's the same meal. BCV are good until MN on the changeover day and the AKV meals are good from check in till MN on the checkout day. You have many choices. You could get one plan for one portion and a different plan, or none at all, for the other portion. You could also get the plan or plans for one room and not the other if you chose. And you could direct your cheaper meals to when you had the plan (or no plan) that fit best and vice versa for the more expensive options.

We just did a split stay at the end of August and had the DDP for each separate reservation. We did 4 nights SSR and 5 nights AKV. We checked out of SSR on Wed. 8/22 and had until midnight to use the SSR associated DDP ,it's "built" into your room key. So, even though we had already checked into AKV on the afternoon of 8/22 and received AKV room keys, we used our SSR keys for our Boma TS meal that evening. We also had several snack credits remaining on our SSR DDP. We used them in Zawadi Marketplace to purchase food for our villa. Anything under $4.00 is considered a "snack" in the eyes of DDP. We purchased a loaf of bread, a 1/2 gallon of milk, half-n-half, peanut butter, etc. Each item was 1 snack credit. Keep that in mind when you're switching resorts. Don't let those snack credits go to waste. At midnight the credits from your first reservation expire, so plan accordingly. We made a spread sheet to keep track of all of our ADR's and conf.# so that we maximized our DDP credits. It may get confusing at times when you think about split stays. And we absolutely saved $$ using the DDP.

Thanks, everybody! I really appreciate your help.

We have late lunch reservations on the changeover day at Le Cellier, and I hadn't planned to check in at AKV until after that, and to be honest, I don't really feel like hoofing it all the way over there from BCV and then back to Le Cellier. I think maybe I'll spring for the Deluxe DDP for the BCV stay--I don't think we'll need three meals per day, but we definitely need more than one TS.

I'm sure we'll figure out something to do with the extras!
