Split stay CBR and AoA?

Does splitting a week at CBR and AoA make sense? We have never stayed at a moderate (almost entirely deluxes) and want to try one. Like the skyliner and food choices at CBR and neighbouring Riviera. We want to move to AoA for the family room to have more space (we have always had a one bedroom with our daughter, so worried 8 nights is too much in a small room).

Does this seem odd since they are so close? We could also try POFQ, which I have always wanted to try, but the vegetarian options look slim there.

We are going first week of December 2024 if that helps.

With that length of stay I think a split stay could be fun. Keep in mind that during your moving day you will be homeless from check out until your room is ready which could be 3pm. We have done split stays several times and it definitely works better for us if we plan to be in a park during that homeless time rather that sitting around in the lobby or pool at the new resort waiting for the room to be ready. We are doing a split stay in March starting at AOA because some extended family will be there with our little nieces and nephew. We want to enjoy some pool time with them, and we have never stayed there. After three nights we are moving to Coronado Springs for 4 more nights. One of the things we like about a split stay is having different restaurants to try. Enjoy your trip!

Do it! I always split stay. Normally I’d say go value to mod but I think you’re right in your plan since AoA will be a bit of a mental relief with the extra space. AoA & CBR are completely different vibes so I don’t think it’s silly to split a stay between them since that idea floats your boat!

And yes, 8 days in one room is a lot of togetherness if you aren’t used to traveling like that. I would also consider calling Swolphin and asking about their multi-room discount to compare 2 connected rooms at Swolphin to AoA price wise.

Go for it. I often do split stays and love them. You get to try out new resorts and eventually will have stayed in most of them. I usually do 1 or 2 nights in a value then move to either a moderate, a deluxe or Dolphin. I've even done split stays on only a 5 night stay. Bonus, it saves me money but I'm guessing if you are going to a suite at AoA that's not going to be the case.

If the reason behind the split is to get more space, I don't think the proximity of the resorts is that big of a deal. I also absolutely love POFQ (it's my favorite mod), however CBR is better located, IMHO. I agree with PP who recommended checking into pricing for connecting rooms Swan/Dolphin - I would call Swan/Dolphin directly for connecting availability and also ask about discounts. There are typically discounts for Bonvoy members, APs, first responders, nurses, etc. They also typically offer a family discount when you book two rooms (typically 25% off the second room).

Thanks everyone. We did look into S/D, but it looks like they don't use WDW transportation anymore and I'm thinking that could be a nightmare. I'll look into it again.

We do plan on spending a lot of time at Epcot. We got married there in 2010 - so this is kinda an early anniversary trip (partly because we want our DD to see WDW at xmas, and we want to go to Europe for our actual anniversary). So being close by either via skyliner or walking would be awesome.

Other than more room and different theming, with AoA you just have a food court dining and extra Skyliner route to get to Epcot or HS.

Could you do DVC Rental instead of AoA - then you are in different area of like by Disney Springs, MK or AK?

We normally do a DVC rental but I need more flexibility to modify or cancel this year as there has been some health issues with our parents and I've also started a new job and don't want to ask for time off yet (so basically I'm booking the rooms now and flights later). Otherwise, we would have absolutely booked BWV and probably GF.

I did reach out to who I usually book DVC through and apparently that week is like a DVC conference (or something?) and the rooms are booking fast.

S/D still offers buses to AK, MK and DS. The drop-off at AK is actually closer to the entrance than the WDW buses. For MK, we just walk over to YC or BWI and grab the bus there. For us, if there is a cost savings, dealing with the S/D buses is worth it simply for the resort location.

Good to know! I'll take a quick look at it.

That said, I've decide to work on my 'decision fatigue' this year and let others have control. It sounds like my husband and daughter decided on POFQ/AoA split!
