Any advice out there for taking kids with a bit of an age difference?

they will be 8 and 4. My 8 year old is tall and will ride everything. His and dad I also enjoy all the rides.

our youngest with be 4. She is currently 38.25 (with shoes) inches tall. We have 9 Months until our trip so there is hope we hit the 40inches.

This is gonna sounds silly but I’m worried my little one is gonna be bored sometimes just waiting for us to ride a ride she can’t ride?
Is there enough around the big rides for a little one to do?

I had this issue for several trips. Bottom line...it wasn't an issue.

I would say the last thing to do is literally stand around doing nothing while the others ride. While they are on Space mountain, you can be on the people mover. While they are on 7DMT, you could ride Dumbo. While they are on Splash & Big Thunder, you could ride the train (if it's open) or Pirates or Magic Carpets. While they do TOT & RnRC, you go could go to the Cars Show.

Or you could have a snack, a bathroom break, browse the stores, see one of the live shows...there is so much to do, everywhere, that standing around waiting on someone else is not really a good plan in my opinion.

There are 4 years between my oldest and youngest. There are definitely things to do in MK. No problem there. And your oldest can benefit from double rides with Rider Swap (learn how to use it - he can ride once with each of you). Epcot is okay on the Land/Seas side but kind of boring by Test Track and Mission Space. AK by Everest is a little kid desert. HS now has the Lightning McQueen show by RNR.

The first time we went, my kids were 3, 5, and 7. My oldest wanted to do Space Mountain, so I made a FP for Buzz while we rode SM. When we rode ToT, the 3 year old had fallen asleep. However, when my 5 and 7 year old did Jedi Training, he built a light saber and cheered from the sidelines with his own. We didn't do AK, but pretty much everywhere else was easy for all of us to do, including when we went over to Universal.

There's a lot to do, with even a little bit of planning ahead, I think you'll be totally fine and not be bored at all.
