I just picked up a box of Splenda Packets at Walmart today. I'm going to start substituting this in my coffee tomorrow ( I begin induction on Thursday)..and wonder how many packets equal 1 tsp sugar? I also saw the big bag of the granular stuff- it was at walmart for $5.97 about the size of a bag of Frozen Chicken Tenders...you know, the banquet ones... (wow, thats a poor comparision!)..

Any help is appreciated. DH says he's not starting till Thursday..I think he's going to have more withdrawal problems than me, but we'll see

Splenda comes in two formulations. The packets are the standard formulation, and one packet contains the sweetness of two teaspoons of sugar. Bulk Splenda takes the standard formulation and bulks it up so it measures like sugar (by volume). I think the "big bag" of Splenda is supposed to have the sweetness of a pound of sugar, I believe. The bag is larger than a pound of sugar, I believe, because to compress Splenda would tend to damage how well it measures like sugar.

I always thought one packet equals one tsp. sugar. I used to use two tsp. sugar in my coffee but since I switched to Splenda I use two packets & it tastes fine (and guilt-free!) :)

BTW the new giant bag of Splenda is the same as a 5# bag of sugar!!

geez- 5 x the price of a 5lb bag of sugar! Guess they say the reduced carb people comin huh? We wont mention the price to DH...shhhhhhhhh

Remember that 1 packet of splenda has 1 carb - so if you use 2 in your coffee it is 2 carbs - plus whatever the coffee may have (I don't drink coffe, so I don't know its carb count - but it DOES have carbs)

The "measures like sugar" splenda seems to cost a bit more compared to the packets, so I only use the pourable stuff for recipes that don't list a packet count.

Sorry... I meant 5 pounds.

Splenda's web site indicates, "Each packet is the equivalent of two teaspoons of sugar."

Wow, each packet is equal to TWO teaspoons of sugar?? I have always had a sweet tooth- no wonder I love Splenda so much!:p As long as it is 0 calories, I guess I can live with the equivalent of four tsp. sugar in my coffee each morning!

FYI - 1 cup of coffee has .9 carb grams. (Of course, it depends on how strong you make it. I just figure I'm safe counting 1 carb per cup.)
