Last year I finally tricked my DH into going on Splash Mtn. He hates to get wet, so I said it wasn't too much water...
He loved it EXCEPT for the STINKY WATER. Has anyone noticed the stinch of the water once covered with it? I want to ride it again soon, but no longer is the problem getting wet, but getting stinky. Anyone have a comment or a way to ask WDW to put a few drops of bleach down the waterfall?

Oh yeah! I've only been on it once in my past four visits to Disney. I dig the ride, but I always feel so dirty when I get off. When I get off the ride I literally run right into the bathroom and wash my arms up to my elbows!

I don't mean to sound negative though! I mean heck, I'm off on Friday for my sixth year wedding anniversary celebration and my fifth visit in 24 months! :)

I had a friend that used to work at a theme park and he told me that everyone rides the water rides in the afternoon to cool off, and they have been sweating all day long, so obviously the water stinks like stale sweat after a while. He told us the best time to ride those was first thing in the morning. Hope that helps!

Hi--

We were there last week and the water smelled heavily of chlorine. Last year I noticed the stinky smell, but not this year. Of course, we always rode early in the day.

I don't notice the water smell, but have you ever smelled your hands when you got off this ride? EWWWWWWWWW! I'm bringing hand sanitizer with us this trip!

To think that a percentage of that water is people's sweat; that is so nasty!
I didn't think it was the water of the flume per say but the damp smell of the stagnant water in the logs.

I don't care what anyone says - I don't think they've change the water since the ride opened!

We also commented on the strong smell of chlorine last week. We rode it late in the day (actually during the Spectromagic parade) and didn't notice any other smell but the chlorine.

I always go in the bathroom after the ride to wash my hands because of the stink. You almost do not want to hold on to the handle. Yuck....:sad2: :confused3
Wonder why they can't get rid of the smell???

i agree, do not hold on the the bars in front of you unless you want to have really gross smelling hands!!! i learned a few years back, and now bring the anit-bac wips with us when we go to magic kingdom just for that ride!!

Maybe it is the same reason as they don't know how to fix Brer Rabbit in one of the scenes :hyper:

Do they ever refurbish Splash Mountain?

The bars and other parts that people touch on dry rides are just as bacteria laden as the bars and hancles on Splash Mountain.

The water in Splash Mountain is not changed every night. Also I doubt that the amount of sweat washed off of people who "had gitten wet" is significant. Impurities from litter people dropped in, insects, and from birds flying overhead, are probably greater.

I suppose the stink that you smelled late in the day was noticed because the chlorination done earlier in the day had worn off.

I was told that occasionally disinfectants containing bromine are used and they have a stink of their own.

I totally agree with the previous poster that the smell may actually be causing the water to be cleaner. My MIA has a 6 person indoor spa that she treats with Bromine. It certainly does have a smell to it but is very effective at keeping the spa clean and safe. I would venture to say that with all the treatment the water gets at Splash that the bars, seats etc. are probably MORE disinfected than other rides.

I have to agree about the handrails! They make your hands smell and it isn't good by any stretch of the imagination. :crazy2:

We use hand sanitizer to get rid of the smell too - but nothing works like a quick run to the bathroom for a proper washing.

Maybe they need to wipe those suckers down with some bleach every night. ::yes::

I am extremely allergic to mold spores..and if I am not on my medicine riding the water rides at WDW almost stops me breathing totally and my eyes run like fountains on Splash..I know it is heavy with mold spores for one thing.....I am very grateful for allergy medicine or I could never go to WDW..:earsgirl: :earsboy:

Yes they do. When we went in January of 2002, SM was down for refurbishing. Bummer because we had never been on it.

I would agree with whoever said that the handles/bars of this ride are no more bacteria infested (if not less) than all of the other rides in all of WDW. Everything there is full of bacteria! Yummy thought eh?

Most of our trips have been in Dec or Oct and I have always noticed that smell. In fact we went in Dec then again in Mar recently. In Dec the water smelled but in Mar the smell wasnt there.

Made me wonder if they do something to the water at beggining of year:confused:
