Hi all,
I leave on Thursday for a long weekend trip. Splash Mt. happens to be my favorite ride and I've been checking wait times for the past week on my phone and it seems like half the time I check, Splash is closed!! Does anyone know what the heck is up with it and why this keeps happening? Or is this normal at this time of year? I just hope I'm able to get on it, b/c we have very limited time this trip.
Thanks!!

Spash Mountain can close anytime thier is incliment weather in the area particularly lightening. It's summer, it storms just about some point everyday in FL so Splash closing off and on is relatively normal.

I recommend getting a FP early in the day and checking your wait time app for when it is open and head over there after your window opens to use it. If you arrive early I'd also ride it near RD or in the first hour the park opens, you should have little wait then and the storms usually don't arrive till after noon.

oh, that's true, I never thought about the thunderstorms closing it...but oddly enough it was reported closed this morning until about 15 minutes ago...I don't think there are thunderstorms in the area now....but who knows. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and like you said, I'll grab a fast pass asap!! Thanks for your help :)

It also seems to take a while for those apps to update after stormy weather has moved through. I have been standing in front of a "closed" ride, updated it with the current wait time, ridden the ride, and come off to see the app STILL says "closed". It seems like they wait for a few people to agree before they update the time.

We just returned home on 8/14. We were in the MK 3 times during our visit. We were able to ride Splash several times, but on all but 1 ride the boat would slow down and the announcer would say that there was trouble downstream. The ride did close on several occasions, but would open again later.

You will get that message if the ride stops loading for any reason.

This occurs frequently when a guest might require additional loading and/or unloading time.

It seems to happen at least once nearly every time we ride.

We tried to ride Splash yesterday as one of our last rides before we had to head home. We got Fast Passes around 9:00 with a 9:45 to 10:45 return time then went over and road BTMRR a couple of times then went over to do Peter Pan and Buzz Lightyear. We returned to Splash at about 10:15 and it was down because they were having trouble with the animation. We road Pirates and did some other stuff but kept coming back to try for Splash until we finally had to leave at 11:30. We were bummed. Fortunately, we got to ride it earlier in our trip.

I know it's slightly off topic but: my question is about space mountain? i too have been checking the ride times for a few days on the phone and I believe i've seen space mt closed too ... i thought it odd since it's an indoor roller coaster. i know it's been raining a lot this week in FL, so can anyone tell me why? I knew Splash Mt was closed here & there and I figured it was due to weather.

I don't have any clue why Space would be closed so much lately either....it can't be due to weather!
Upon rechecking the wait times, it seems Splash has been closed all day!! I wonder what the heck is going on!!

We've been to MK 3 times in the last week or so and Splash has been closed several times. We got to MK at 9:45 this morning and it was closed- even the water wasn't running! We got fast passes but as far as I know it was still closed when we left the park around 12:30. The times it was closed when we were there it wasn't due to weather- there was something wrong with the ride itself.

We got fast passes for BTMRR after riding splash the other day but when we went back to ride it was down. Frustrating after crossing the park to get there.

Also, space mtn was closed the other day when we were on the TTA- we got to see it with the lights on :) very cool. It was working again by the time we got off the TTA.

Since Space Mtn's "update" a few years ago it has been notorious for breaking down. It seems to have gotten a little better but sometimes its worse than others. Most of last year it was not uncommon to see Space go down at least once a day. If you are a Disney junkie it's a great time to ride TTA and see it with the lights on. Space is also one of those you want to grab a FP for early in case it does go down and then watch for it to come back online and head over then.

Thanks for the updates! How frustrating! I wonder what is wrong with it, and maybe they should just close it for a day (or however long it takes) to fix it once and for all instead of having it break down every day!! I guess they can't just have an unannounced refurb but something is definitely wrong with it, it seems!

We just returned from 8 days in the parks. We spent a lot of time in MK and Splash and Space Mountain were both shut down intermittently while we were there. We had waited about 20 minutes in the FP line at Space and they shut it down and it was down for about 2 hours. Once on Splash we were literally next in line and the ride shut down for about 30 minutes. We were told they had to reboot it twice. We were about to get out of line when it finally started back up. We also got shut out of Mickey's Philharmagic after about a 30 minute wait and they said the show would be down for the rest of the evening. They have everyone a "free" fastpass for their trouble and 90% of the people from Philharmagic went and either got in line at Peter Pan or Winnie the Pooh. It was insane. The Fastpass line for Peter pan was almost as long as the Peter Pan line.

I think the ride is getting old and is breaking down more often. SM is one of DD's favorite rides, and we rode it many times in December and January. It was stopped way more often than I would have expected. That was before the lap bars were installed, and the CMs told me several times that it was down because someone had stood up or climbed out of the vehicle, but it really seems to me like it is just having issues.

Splash was down for most of today. I don't know exactly why, but I'm sure it was technical issues.

Yeah---I kept checking the wait times periodically today on my phone and it was listed as closed until at least 4 PM :( So sad for the people who were there today---the line for Space Mountain was outrageous (upwards of 100 min at times), and I'm guessing that was, in part, due to Splash being down.

We went back to MK around 6 tonight and the fast pass line was about 50 minutes :scared1: I guess all the people who couldn't use their fp all day got in line when it opened. A CM there told me it didn't open until 4:30.

Space was closed quite a few times too today according to my wait time app.

We went back to Splash around 8:45 or 9 and used our FP from 11:30 that morning. We walked right on :) The standby line was only 40 minutes at that point.

You read my mind! I was going to ask what to do with your FP and when is the best time to go back. Riding at night on splash is always cool. Haven't been to see the new space yet.

Before some of you curse and fume that you have to wait two hours, consider this: I've NEVER been on this ride because it was broken every time I went. Could be worse for you...
