Hi.

This may sound odd, but I was wondering if Disney can adjust the water spray lower or higher depending on the weather, or do you get just as soaked on the ride in say.. February as you would in August?

I want to ride this in the worst way, but if it's going to be chilly, I don't want to be drenched! Is there less of a splash in the cold weather?

I hope you don't think I'm a total dork for asking such a question! :rotfl2:

I don't know if Disney does anything, but I don't remember getting any less wet in the winter than when it's really hot. But in the winter I did wear my jacket with my hood up so that my clothing wouldn't get as wet.

So when wee where there last March(oh memories:goodvibes) at night when It did get a little cooler they diffently did not.So I carry(we always have our pochos) my poncho In hand and cover me and my DS at night because getting wet during the day felt so good but at night:scared1:,it seem like it stuck on you the whole night,or the whole trip:rotfl2:!!. This Is where those dissposal ponchos from the dollar store, that I do not like would come In handy.Just throw them away at the end of the ride.

They don't adjust how splashed you get during the ride itself, but what they can (and will) do is turn off the water canon during colder weather. The water canon usually goes off every third log or so, creating a huge splash that can drench both people on the bridge by the ride and ride-goers.

My sister has done this ride in 40 degree weather and gotten soaked. She managed to live with it, but I can't. I won't do Splash unless it's warm.

OK, Thank you all.

I was hoping it would be a little less of a bombardment at the bottom of the hill, but ah well. I guess I'll pick up a couple of ponchos.

Thanks!

I have heard on these boards that Disney can adjust the "splash" by turning on water cannons. You really notice this at the start of the ride where you float past the briar patch. There are water cannons that shoot off as a log reaches the bottom of the drop and these are not always active. I have ridden in January without getting wet at all.

This is encouraging!! I hope this is the case when we're there! :thumbsup2

As many times as I've ridden this ride last March on a not so hot day, we all got AS WET AS WET COULD BE We came off dripping wet.

Not a good  to go on SP when you have a dinner ressie at Citrico's.

Could have used some pixiedust: to keep us dry. Won;t be making that mistake again. Although we did get a few :rotfl: out of it.

I always watch a few logs come down (from the bridge right at the bottom of the drop) and it's pretty easy to tell how wet people are getting. You can decide then if you want to risk it!

I remember during a drought they did reduce the "splash" on Splash Mountain.

The water cannons are usually turned off in the cold weather.

Even when it is hot, it's always a hit or miss with getting wet. Usually a miss. Unless you manage to sit in the front or have bad luck with the water cannon while trying to go up the hill, you pretty much only get a tiny splash.

You could just bring a poncho or something.

You know it's down for rehab through February 27th, right? I know...I'm sad too!!!

im pretty sure they don't do anything, when you go down the hill the same amount water will hit you.

we were front row and got really wet, then we went to the back row and there was barely any water that hit us. so if you really don't want to get wet i'd go to the back.

have fun:) thats my fav ride

I normally just read all of the posts and don't chime in very much but I am certain that Disney has control of the canons. I rode the day before the refurb this year at 11 at night. It was about 35 degrees and my best friend and I were the only two in line and on the boat. Because she had never been to Disney and it was going to be closed the rest of the week we bought an extra days ticket just to get on SM. We FROZE!!! But it was awesome worth every penny for the extra day ticket just to get on 1 ride. The canon was turned off and we sat in the back of the boat with jackets on. Didn't get 1 drop on us!!! I've been to the World over 30 times and this will go down as one of my greatest memories. I have the picture but have no idea how to post it :(

While we were there this past December we rode SM several times. The weather was rainy, cloudy, and chilly, not freezing, but probably around 50 or so. I really didn't want to get wet, so we brought along some ponchos and sat in the 2nd or 3rd row. We got some sprinkles on us, but nothing the poncho didn't protect us from. The water canons were on, and those who sat in the front did get very wet. But then they didn't have any ponchos on either. Bring a poncho and you'll be fine.

I went on late at night during EMH and thought I wouldn't get very wet-Wrong!

I rode in December and it was freezing and I got very wet! Soaked actually. My hair was even drenched and I don't remember ever getting that wet on SM. I bought one of those Santa Minnie hats just to keep my head warm afterwards. But I loved every second of it. They probably control the water canons but there's still the liklihood that you could get very wet.

We rode Splash last May when it was hot out, 3rd and 4th rows, and didn't get wet at all. Last November when the weather was cool, we were in the 2nd row and I was sitting on the right side, DH on the left, I got sopping wet, him not as much.

They do turn off the sprays and they actually lower the water level so there is less splash. You can see the tracking up about 2" above the surface of the water on cold days. I rode in December at night in about 45 degree weather and came off dry. I think I rode it again in January too. Just duck at the end of the big drop so you won't get spray in your face.

I remember reading somewhere here that the Splash boats are actually a patented design to minimize splash.

There are no long lines on colder days, since most people don't realize this and avoid the ride. We could have gotten right back on when we rode.
