Splash Mountain question..

Do you know if it is "on Schedule" to open Feb 27?We are arriving on March 4!!!

So when wee where there last March(oh memories:goodvibes) at night when It did get a little cooler they diffently did not.So I carry(we always have our pochos) my poncho In hand and cover me and my DS at night because getting wet during the day felt so good but at night:scared1:,it seem like it stuck on you the whole night,or the whole trip:rotfl2:!!. This Is where those dissposal ponchos from the dollar store, that I do not like would come In handy.Just throw them away at the end of the ride.

I enthusiastically second the disposable poncho suggestion - love them!

im pretty sure they don't do anything, when you go down the hill the same amount water will hit you.

we were front row and got really wet, then we went to the back row and there was barely any water that hit us. so if you really don't want to get wet i'd go to the back.

have fun:) thats my fav ride

If you're in the front row and don't want to get wet- DUCK!- we've done this a few times and the water, mostly, goes over us and gets the people in the 2nd row (who usually aren't too happy:rolleyes1). DH and I did this one EMH night when it was chilly and we only got a little splash that dried pretty quick.

I am certain that Disney has control of the canons.

Agreed.

It's interesting to note that there is very little (virtually none) "wetness" on Splash Mtn. without the water that's "pumped-in" and "cannoned" or sprayed onto guests.

Contrary to common knowledge the "splashes" on
Splash Mountain are overwhelmingly NOT caused by the
logs hitting the water in the troughs (a very few
small ones are.)

The heavy drenching water effects (including the BIG
one at the bottom of the final drop) are actually
"sprayed" and/or "launched" at guests by adjustable
water pumps and/or water cannons.

Disney actually holds a patent on the Splash Mtn. "logs" that is specifically for a vehicle that does NOT splash much water.

The first spot that can drench guests is right after you have exited the first lift-hill following boarding.
As you watch other logs travel down the "final big drop", at that log's "splash-down," a large water-cannon can shoot gallons of water over onto YOUR log. The CM's will usually shut off that cannon in cold weather (but not always.)

There is that one spot after the first internal drop that can cause some back-splash into the log, but most of the rest of the wetness is due to intentional (and controllable) "pumping."
Even the "big finale's" water comes from electric water misters inside the tunnel after the big drop.

Sometimes the waterfall in the area where you are held just prior to the "Zip a Dee Do Dah" boat will splatter the right-side guests pretty good, too.
But that is also controlled.

We rode this several times and tried to get front row the whole time -- I absolutely loved it! One thing I noticed immediately was the strong mildew-type smell (did anyone else notice that?)...but we fixed that by using hand sanitizer after the ride to mask the smell until we could wash our hands.

Naturally, the logs were all soaked inside (our pants were wet from the point we sat down on the log until late afternoon...quite a look!), so we figured out that it's best to sit on something (ie sweatshirt, jacket, anything) to kind of keep you less wet. But, as someone said -- dry is not an option!

We were at Mk on Feb 24th & hoping Splash would be open early... it wasn't! My son was FINALLY ready to give it a try (again-1st time was when he was 4 & he didn't like it). I guess we'll have to wait until next year.

On the 24th there was water on the ride and I could hear them "testing" things through the loud-speaker on the ride, but we never actually saw any logs going through.

I am a huge fan of ducking. I usuallly ask for the back row (but 3rd works too). And then, I enjoy the thrill of starting down the drop looking, get the photo, and then, before we hit bottom, I really duck my head all the way down as far as I can. I have come up almost completely dry -- sometimes the top or back of my head gets a few sprinkles, but it's really a good way to avoid the drench.

The seats being wet is tougher to avoid IMO . . . if you want to sit on your poncho instead of wearing it, or sit on an empty Disney plastic bag, that can sometimes work if you're a fast loader.

All that being said, we went there on NYD and NYE in the cold, and it was still great! :)
