Splash Mountain in Cold Weather

DS & I love SM when we go in the summer. It is refreshing when we get splashed. Is this ride as popular in the winter months when the temperatures drop? We will be there next week.

When we were there in February, they had the water turned off (obviously, flume part only) because it was pretty chilly. I have to admit, Splash Mountain looked kinda wierd with no water coming down, but at least no one got wet

We use 70 degrees as our determining factor. We have AP, so know we'll just go on it another time. However, if it was a one-time shot, I'd go on it anyway! If it was really cold, I'd wear rain gear and have a great time!

I will be there and I wonder if the water will be turned off? Heck I'm just hoping that we'll catch a no rain situation during our stay!

Even if they don't turn the water off completely they will turn off the cannons that shoot the water in the air to keep it from coming down on you. HOwever it's very easy, just take a poncho. Keep it on you and then when you start up the lift, just throw it over and you're good to go.

I agree, I'd just wear a poncho... we went on Splash Mountain on our last day at MK.. which was still in the 80's but raining off and on. We had ponchos on, and hardly got wet.

I went last Sunday (see my trip report on Day One) during MVMCP, about 10PM, it was 51 degrees. There was no line, and only a few of us brave souls going on it. It was pick your own seat. I didn't take a poncho though...

The rear seat on the left hand side is the dryest seat on the boat. I have never gotten wet in that seat. However, on my trip last week, the cannons were turned off, and the extra waterfalls were turned off. No extra wetting at all!!

I went on SM for the first time a couple weeks ago. I did not wear a poncho, but that wouldn't have helped anyway. I got a face full of water. That was the only place I got wet. Just a big splash of water directly to my face and some of my hair. And honestly, I just didn't like the ride anyway (thought it just went on and on), so I don't think anyone could drag me back on it ever again. Anyway, I'm getting a bit off topic, I just want to mention that even a poncho might not keep you completely dry. I would probably just drape a big piece of plastic over my head.

Oh my goodness. I can't believe you didn't like the ride itself! Everyone has an opinion though, so it's fine but I wish it would go longer. It's I guess about as long as PoTC in Disneyland which is great!!

I don't think I have ever met anyone who didn't like Splash Mountain.... you are definitely a rarity! I actually LOVE the fact that it is a long ride--- definitely makes it worth the wait in line on summer days, and even better when there is no wait at all.....I love the unexpected drops inside, the characters, the music, the theming and of course, the last drop. To each his own, I guess!

I know, I do wish I had liked it more. I hate getting wet on rides but I was willing to suck it up and take it so that I could see the fabulous themeing that so many people have mentioned and raved about to me. I knew I would probably get wet so I tried not to let that color my opinion. I honestly was a bit bored, I guess it just wasn't interesting to me. Maybe because it's been a really really long time since I've seen Song of the South, I don't know. And my husband felt the same way. It just wasn't one of our favorites by a long shot. Which is great for all of the people who love the ride, because there will be two less people in the line now. I am glad to say that I've done it and can check that off in my book. Next up, Kali River Rapids! (Which DH thought was great, though he didn't get very wet at all.)

I actually like the ride but like Atlantis at Sea World much better....I also like The Barges at IOA better than the Rapids at AK...but if you dont like to get wet on rides avoid IOA at all costs....

Darn. I was thinking about penciling in USF and IOA for next year. Most of my family can take or leave water rides though, so maybe it's not such a good idea. But I do want to try the thrill rides at those parks. Hmmmmm. Thanks for the info though.

I would still do US....you wont get wet on any thing there except a minor mist on the Mummy....BUT IOA the one fish 2 fish ride which is there version of Dumbo soaked me...Ripsaw and the Barges drenched me...JP was about like splash moutain....even spiderman got you wet a little...As far as thrill rides go you cannot beat IOA spiderman and Hulk are great...Hulk is actually the best coaster I have been on...So if you ride coasters and got preteens and teens go for it...

I'm not that worried about the little I've gotten wet on SM before with it being cold, but what about Kali River Rapids? Do they turn off the water the drenches people when it's too cold? Just curious?

I do coasters with my Dad, who might be coming with us next year, so maybe we could just do a half day at each of the US parks. My husband and the rest of the family don't do coasters so maybe we'll just leave them to hang around the resort that day. Anyway, sorry for the hijack OP, but thanks for the info Dolphindan!

IOA really only has 3 rides that can soak you: Jurassic Park, Popeye's Bilge Rat Barges, and Dudley DoRight's Ripsaw Falls. Of these, Jurassic is not too bad, a poncho will protect you.

One Fish, Two Fish *can* soak you if you don't listen to the song, but as long as you listen and do what it tells you to do, you won't get wet.

Posiedon's Fury is a show that can get you. It is a fun show, but stay out of the front 3 rows if you don't want to get splashed. (The famous "water tunnel" does not get you wet, though you wouldn't think so, it is just the coolest effect.)

We were there the second week of Dec 2003. It was cold and we got SOAKED!!!!!

I have never laughed so hard in my life! It was fantastic!!!
