Splash Mountain and Grizzly River Run - how wet will we get?

The rides are wonderful. I would not do them in jeans though, just walking from Splash to the front gate in wet jeans sounds miserable! Plan on being soaked, be happy if you aren't. I've been in a raft on GRR where one person was barely wet & another was 100% soaked. Seriously- 100%. I've been barely wet on Splash to pretty wet (80%) but have yet be 100% soaked from splash (although I'm no expert!). We leave the park after we do water rides. We're uncomfortable back to the hotel but the rides are fun. We wear shorts and shoes that can get wet, only do water rides during summer.

For GRR, there are lockers you can use for free for either 1 or 2 hours. Our group will usually change into flip flops, and store everything they dont want wet in the locker. For younger kids, I usually also have them strip off wet shirt and put on dry shirts if we ride late at night.

Last summer we always rode GRR right before we were heading back to the hotel for a break. The times we planned to ride we wore our swim trunks. We rode it twice in a row (without getting out) and just got a light spray of water. For us, part of the thrill is will we get wet or won't we. We had one family on the 1st ride that got drenched. On the other hand, on SM, it really depends where you sit. One night when we rode it, I was in the front and got drenched. Some of the earlier dips before the big drop cause a lot of water to splash in and soaked my shorts. Then, with the big drop, the other half of me got drenched. My partner sitting behind me just experiences a light mist. I was able to ring out a good amount of water from my shirt after the ride. I do say ride them at least once!

Splash is hit or miss for me, but generally not that bad.

I avoid GRR unless it’s right before an afternoon rest at the hotel.

Matterhorn...we get soaked on the left, but not the right. I always ask to go on the right side now.

Last time I got the wettest on Pirates, which was a first for me.

I only ride those rides when it's really hot and I don't mind being wet. I've been completely soaked on GRR before when our raft slowly went through a geyser. I think it was a malfunction because the geyser turned off when the other rafts near us went through it. Plenty of people wear ponchos. I never have, so I don't know how much it helps. You could always bring a change of clothes, too. I consider GRR to be one of the best rides in the 2 parks.

DS and I rode GRR 4 times last August and we were soaked to the skin every time! We were staying at the GCH so we rode it right before an afternoon break so we just squelched our way back to the room!

My favorite time to ride GRR is at the very end of the night right before DCA closes A) because the lines are usually short B) because it's a totally different ride in the dark! and C) we can head straight to the hotel afterwards.

I rarely get that wet on Splash, but I always sit in the back. On GRR I usually end up with wet shoes (I always have a dry pair of socks ready) and few wet patches on my clothes, but occasionally I'll end up completely soaked.

I only ride when it’s hot out! I always wear (supportive not cheap) flip flops or crocks to the parks so I don’t worry about that. Last Sept we got soaked thru on Splash And a bit wet on Grizzly Run. On the days I’m planning to ride them I wear quick dry clothing. Either Capri or shorts. Never denim.

Last trip first ride on GRR not too wet at all. Second trip, I sat next to a big dude (I am at 180) and we went down a drop backwards. Saw a wall of water go over our heads and completely drench the boat. The ride is just not fun for me when we get soaked. My tip for Splash, sit with another person in the back seat. Not only does the back get less splash in my opinion, but more weight towards the back helps as well.

Chickapin water proofing
* have a thin pair of flip-flops to change out of under the trestle
* wear shorts
* cheap poncho to protect your back back full of shoes, socks, camera etc.
* cheap poncho also protects legs as body cavity seldom is wet
* if riding at night, bring along a towel to wipe off wet seat before sitting
*rogue waves inside are how you will get wet on Chickapin, very seldom is it the brier patch, though it happens.
*if you have young kids and they hear screams inside, tell them that person just became wet, there is nothing scary or everyone would scream.
* if riding is a deal breaking in terms of getting wet, then save your relationship and don't ride.

I ride Chickapin three times in a row , same log, in the morning after Peter Pan, I weigh 300 ponds, riding by myself in the log and I do fine, but add another passenger and that rogue wave has a high % of getting me wet, but I dry off quickly that first week of December, regardless of how cool the temp is. GRR has been closed those first weeks of December, so has been a long time, it is random, but prepare to become wet!!!!

When we went in Nov I got soaked to the bone along with my son on GRR my husband hardly got wet and he was sitting in between my son and I.

Splash my legs got wet that’s about it and that wasn’t from the last drop either was from inside
