Hi, we have a girls trip planed for mid November staying at Pop Century for 5 night. I will be going with my mom who is 73 and aunt who is 66. This will be my aunt's first trip to WDW since early 1970's. I want to make this a special trip for both my mom and aunt.

I thought this might be a fun dinner show. Does the flame thrower appear at both the early and late dining times? Please share your observations if you have been to this show. We have the Disney dining plan so cost is not really a concern although the show does take 2 dining credits.

We much prefer the Hoop Dee Doo Revue Dinner Show.

Unfortunately, not good, both show and food. They do serve beer though.

Last I knew it was Bud only, though, which is fine for many but I really wish they at least offered one of the Kona choices since they serve it everywhere else at the Poly.

I haven't been there since they changed the menu but we enjoyed the Spirit of Aloha. The part of the show that is during dinner is pretty cheesy but the part that is after dinner is much better, this is where they have the main show. I believe the fire thrower is at both shows.

I have been to the Hoop de doo show years ago but I think it's pretty much the same, I prefer this over the SOA.

Our personal opinion, for what it's worth. We didn't like the food and liked the show even less; we left as soon as the first part of the show was over. We liked Hoop De Doo much better, both food and show.

The food when I went was mediocre. Not the worst meal I've ever had, but definitely not that good. The meat was dry and tasted like it had been kept warm too long.

As for the show, I thought it was pretty boring. The fire show is good but it's a comparatively short part of the whole thing.

We did SoA about a year ago with a group of 10 people, everyone enjoyed it very much. Of course, there were things that could have been better - but isn't that always the case? :)

Been going since the eighties. Food is good. Not Narcossi or Yachtsman good but good. It keeps coming too. The dessert was changed to a weird volcano moose. I am hoping that changed again since we are going this summer. The show is cheesy during dinner but very good afterwards. To each his own. This show is like anything at WDW. Some will rave some will hate.

Back in the day they served pitchers of mai tai's. I'm sure that made the show a LOT better.

Back in the day it was good, the day being the when you would get mickey butter. Today, I would never suggest anyone go, but I will admit it's been 7-8 years since the last time i went.

But it does seem to have a core of people that enjoy it.

Show is kinda weak with a somewhat cheesy plot and food fits that as well. In my opinion, for what you're paying, the food is no where close to what it should be.

As others mentioned, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue is wonderful and also readily accessible from MK! I'd go for a floor seat if you have the money as they're the best views.

If you really like the idea of a luau and you have a car, the Wantilian Luau at Royal Pacific at Universal is much better. Food is great and show is cute and slightly more authentic.

My wife and I went for date night our first trip. We had the kids go to the Neverland Child babysitting place at Poly.

We really enjoyed it. The food was ok. Not great but certainly not awful. The show was good cheesy fun. Not something I'd do more than once but the once was a good time.

We have been to SOA twice and loved it both times. The first time was probably 15 years ago and the second time was last year. We went with DD23 and her boyfriend. DH got to go up for his birthday and DD and BF got to go up and slow dance for either celebrating something, they both graduated from college, or just for being in love. Then boyfriend was picked to learn to Hula and daughter was picked to grab the leaf of love, lol. We loved it and would have loved it if they hadn't participated but really they bring so many reasons to come up you can go up. We also did HDDR and really liked it but we enjoyed the Luau more.

We have been once and enjoyed it. The fire show part is the best. I think everyone should experience it at least once and decide from there.

We just went for our first time 2 weeks ago, the food was actually better then the show. As stated allready the show is cheesy but the last 10 min made up for it with the fire dance. Otherwise the experience is what you make of it:)

The last time we went, a couple of years ago, we loved it. It was me, my DH, & our DD. The food was good, not great, we didn't care for the bread or the dessert, everything else was fine. We really enjoyed the show. It is a bit cheesy but it's fun. There was a part for the kids to go up & dance & even a part for couples. We'd go again.

I personally, would go back for the food alone!

It varies from Ohana, and is absolutely delicious, and a TON of food, we loved each and every part of that aspect of it! The show itself however, we found SO slow and not a lot happened at ALL until the third "act" when the dancers really started dancing, the flame throwers (?) came out.

I personally like the Hoop De Doo better for both food, show quality, interaction, and the unlimited booze includes sangria, not just crappy wine & beer :rotfl: I took my Mom and a friend of hers (64 & 80) in Sept and we all had an absolute blast at the HDDR

I loved reading all of your replies so thank you very much. It is definitely interesting to read all of the varied opinions. My mom and aunt are going ages 73 and 66 so I want it to be fun and not put them to sleep. I like the ideal of watching the electrical water parade from the beach at Poly. I just can't make up my mind. The 6:15 slots are already taken for the Hoop De Doo . If we took the 4:00 reservation what time would you suggest leaving if we were at HS or Universal. We don't ride coasters so will be mainly do shows at those parks. It seems like it would be a huge pain to get to Fort Wilderness. Is the show inside versus outside at Poly. We are going week of Nov 10th so weather may or may not be cold at night. I need to decide soon before show times are sold out. My mom and aunt are leaving everything completely up to me so no help from them.

We were there in May. We thought the show was good, a bit cheesy in parts, but the firethrower was very good. Now the food, IMO was so so. As others have said, if you want the best of both, go to HDDR.
