I just found decent fares from ACY to MCO for August 2010. I want to book now, but don't know how often they change their flight schedules. I have not flown Spirit in a long time. Are they worth it this far in advance?

As far as I can tell, Spirit VERY rarely changes flight times. I work at an airport that gets a Spirit flight to ACY and I don't think it's ever gone at a time other than which it's scheduled...unless there's weather....then all bets are off. But as far as flight times changing, you should be fine.

I've flown Spirit to Orlando several times in the past and never had a flight get changed. My guess, and this is based on my experiences, is that the ACY to MCO flights are very popular and usually have very full airplanes, thus no need to change or cancel flights.

That being said, my parents have used Spirit to fly into Tampa and they have had flights changed and/or cancelled.

As for whether it's worth it, that depends on the price and if you're comfortable with it. This far out, I'm sure the prices will fluctuate many times before August comes around.

Spirit changed our return flight in Oct from an afternoon flight to the night flight (getting into ACY at 11:45 PM). It was fine with me because we got almost a whole day in at the Parks on our departure day. It might have been inconvenient if we had to be home earlier. And yes, if you want to choose your seat there is a fee for that. I usually just take my chances.

I have had my flights changed by Spirit many times. They do charge for seat assignments, baggage and drinks. I now prefer to use AirTran, which also flies out of ACY.
