Anyone book with Spirit here that would know if they still have cheaper flights available at the airport ticket counter? Pre pandemic I used to always buy tickets at the airport instead of online to save the "convenience fee" built into the online price most people don't know about. We are considering an upcoming flight but don't want to waste a 25 minute ride to the airport to purchase the tix if it's not gonna save anything.

YMMV This is discussed on flyertalk.com. Sometimes yes and sometimes a fee is imposed which offsets savings

The last time we had checked, which is a couple of years ago now, purchasing Spirit tickets at our closest airport were then very close in price to online purchases.

You can check to see how much you'd save. Do a dummy booking and check the passenger usage fee and subtract that amount. We just flew Spirit CLE to MCO and back last month and saved $22.99 per person, each way, so a savings of over $45 per person! Definitely worth it IMO.

Spirit and Frontier play the same game. They don't pay federal tax on the usage fee. They treat it as an optional service like luggage and seat fees.

They don't want to sell you a ticket without that $$. They try to ompensate by adding other charges. Works until pax say they'll file.a complaint. Fee isn't optional.

Check forum on flyertalk.com. You'll read current experience

I just shared a current experience, literally last week.

Posters on flyertalk have different experiences at different airports.
I don't doubt your experience, nor do I doubt others who had a different.

edited to add I don't remember which applies to Spirit and which Frontier..Buying a ticket at the counter precludes paying for checked luggage online at the same time you purchase your ticket. Some airports tickets can be bought in the airlines baggage office by baggage claim and not in the check in counter. Some locations limit ticket purchases to specific hours, generally when passengers aren't checking in/luggage for flights.
