We haven't flown Spirit since they changed their carry-on rules and added a fee for "overhead bin" carry on's.

We found a really good deal, so we booked it.

I remember the spaces underneath the seats in front of you being VERY small. Will a typical backpack fit in that space?

Thanks!

Here is their policy from their website. The personal item must be no larger than 16X14X12"

It probably depends on how big your backpack is and how full you pack it.

A large backpack, packed "full" probably won't fit.

The maximum weight for checked bags (without paying extra) is only 40 lbs.

This is why they will NEVER get my business. IMO Way too many crazy fees !

You can't profitably run an airline on the kinds of fares Spirits customers want to see.

Too many passengers were "cheating" Spirit. They were using carryon bags instead of paying to check a bag. Spirit now charges for bin bags.

Too many passengers were checking less then one bag per passenger. Spirit lowered the maximum to 40 lbs. Some passengers will pay to check an extra bag. Others won't read the fine print and will pay the extra $25 for a bag that weights 41-50 lbs. Many bags weigh 15-20 lbs empty. Very easy to pack over 40 lbs.

When I flew with Spirit in December, both my kids had regular sized back packs, not over stuffed, and they fit fine.

We flew Spririt in January and my husband carried a regular sized backpack with a laptop compartment and it fit fine. It wasn't stuffed, but it he packed a good amount into it.

I am fine paying for everything extra if I keep getting deals like they offer - we are paying $350 for 3 people to fly from ACY in August!

$284 WITH TAXES for three to go to MCO in May!

Is this a regular fare or are you part of the $9 club? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth joining.

We flew spirit in Feb and all 5 of us had pretty full backpacks, and we were fine. I agree that there are a lot of fees, but when you can snag $9 or &19 dollar airfair you still can't beat it:thumbsup2

I wouldn't join the $9 club until you are ready to book a fare that requires it. You are able to see the sale fares and when you go to book they give you the option to join and get the lower price:)

Spirit is fine until the plane breaks, there are weather issues or thier employees strike. you will then discover just what you got for $9. A surly attitude and not much else.

I won't fly them, the risk of them failing to deliver and the fact that they don't care if they don't is higher then on any other US carrier IMHO.
