I am flying Spirit from NY to Fort Lauderdale next weekend. I booked the flight before I realized the error of my ways. Oh well, live and learn.

I paid extra for the "Big Front Seat", but to save money I am just bringing my small backpack (short trip, not packing too many clothes). My question is: Does anyone know where/how I would stow my backpack (can't do it under the seat in front of me as there isn't one). Am I going to be charged?

I tried asking customer service, but they have no clue.

Thanks for any response/advice.

They have put my (wife and kids also) back pack in the over head when we have sat in the front row, there was no extra charge for doing so. When we boarded we place the bag on the floor in front of us, during boarding the FA asked for the bags and they were stowed.

BTW I don't think you made an error booking with Spirit. It's not uncommon to read the most vocal haters of Spirit have not even flown with them and are just regurgitating what the have read elsewhere.

For us its more than the airline, the AP they fly from makes them a winner. I don't mind the a la carte price structuring as I can add the items up to see if it a good deal or not. Like many things in life there is a risk / reward chance you take with a small carrier, but its one that has worked out well in my experience over the years.

Thanks for both replies. I wasn't sure if I was going to be charged for overhead space, and their customer service really didn't have anything to offer beyond "It goes under the seat in front of you."

I've never flown Spirit, as I usually fly to West Palm Beach. However, to Fort Lauderdale it was way cheaper than other airlines for this coming weekend. Also, I've had pretty bad flights on other airlines, so I can't imagine this being the pit of despair. I mean, there are some regulations out there.

Thank you again.

I'm sure I would have had some remark about how I would get to my bag if it was stowed under the pilot/co-pilots seats considering I was in the front row which implies there are not seats in front of me. Sometimes Customer service doesn't listen very well :confused3 , and it's not just airlines.

Just ask the Flight Attendant when you get onboard where you are supposed to store during take-off/landing assuming you are going to be getting into the bag during flight for your entertainment needs. I'm sure they'll be more than helpful. I'm not familiar enough with Spirit, do they charge for overhead bin storage?

I'm pretty sure that the Customer Service reps (I called more than once) at Spirit wouldn't understand sarcasm. They were worse than the customer service reps I dealt with at T-Mobile.

Spirit charges $20 to stow a bag in the overhead bin. Each way. However you are allowed one free personal item, which must fit under the seat in front of you. Since I am only going for the weekend, I decided to save the $40 and use my backpack. I wasn't sure if I would be charged extra because there is no seat in front of me.
