Spinoff: Pineapple on a Pizza?

I am curious if those who think it is " gross"do you eat pineapple with ham? Is it the sauce with it that turns you off?

I just never have heard so many people think it was weird maybe since it is more comman here. Btw, I never knew it was Canadian before.

I don't think it's weird, I think it's gross. I don't like fruit and meat combos. They taste disgusting to me. It's just a matter of personal tastebuds. I don't eat pineapple with ham. I love pineapple when it knows it's place.

FOR, VERY MUCH FOR! But I like it with bacon, not ham, and some places get my order wrong and give me ham. I'm not a huge pizza fan, but this is my favorite and my family hates it, so I usually only get it when we have other people over.

Maybe we should work geography into the debate.

Born and bred NYer here. I'm wondering if the Pineapple fans aren't from the Pizza Friendly metro areas of NY and Chicago. :stir:

FOR!

Almost every pizza we order has pineapple on it. We've been doing that since the mid 90's. Combos include: pineapple alone; pineapple and onion; supreme pizza but take off the mushrooms and add pineapple in; chicken, pineapple, onions and green peppers; sausage and pineapple. Don't really care for ham/Canadian bacon.

Guess what I had for din din tonight?

(I can never take part in food threads here without getting CRAVINGS! :rotfl2: )

YUCK! I don't care for most hot fruit but I particularly don't like sweet on savory foods.

I made DS a Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza today.....looked good.

From the vegetarian/pescatarian corner, I'll go with pineapple and onion. Luckily, pizza is one of the foods that my omnivore DH will compromise with me, and he enjoys it too. But we don't order it often, preferring the slightly healthier green veggie choices (spinach, broccoli, and onions).

But I wonder how many people who don't like the idea of mixing sweet and savory forget about cranberry sauce with turkey? Or candied yams?

Well - someone brought up Inside Out and the broccoli pizza. There are a variety of inspirations for that, but they all trace back to the Cheese Board Collective in Berkeley, California. They have a single type of pizza each day with no meat. They don't have a tomato sauce base, and often the cheese is different. They've inspired a group of offshoots known as the Arizmendi Association that all do the same concept. There's one in Emeryville within walking distance of Pixar. The first offshoot was in Oakland, and they have a couple in San Francisco. I've had lots of different toppings from Yukon gold potatoes to sweet corn.

Here's one sprinkled with arugula:

I can only speak for myself - but I don't like them. I can also include orange chicken, duck a l'orange, lamb with mint jelly and any kind of breakfast meat dipped in maple syrup.
