Is it any good, I keep reading reports of it being runny. I hanged our MM ADR for Sci FI so my DH could experience it, he is a sci fi fan, I ate there in 2003 and enjoyed it.

Now my question is we are on the DDP but appys arent included on ours is this spinach dip worth paying OOP?

Sorry to say, but it's not very good. I wouldn't pay out of pocket for it. HTH

I thought it was awful. Definitely not even chain restaurant (TGI Fridays, Mimi's etc) quality. Plus our chips were very stale.

The onion rings are the only appetizer here that I would recommend.

I actually ate there a few years back and don't remember the dip being bad. The theming of sci-fi is so cool, but the food is not even close to spectacular. I ate there for lunch because I wanted my daughter to experience the eating in the car. IMHO that's the only thing good about sci-fi. Now if my daughter wants to go there, we do it for dessert or a shake (can't go wrong with those).

My mom and I had it last year and it was OK. I would say on par with the chain restaurants like Applebee's and Chili's. I actually like it better than Applebee's...I think theirs is vile. Definitely on the runny side but not horrible. It's much more 'cheese' than spinach.

We had the dip in 2008 and loved it. So much so that when we came home we set about trying to find the recipe. I hope it hasn't changed since then, I don't remember it being runny either so maybe it has changed :sad1:

My boys and I loved it! So much so that we asked for the recipe. WDW often can provide guests with the recipes as they are normally on computer and can be printed out. Chef Bob came out to us and said that since the park was switched to DHS from MGM it was not yet set up for printing out-he just told me the recipe. POurs is scaled down version-they make 6 gallons every 2 days according to Chef Bob.

Heavy Cream (reduced and add rue)
Roasted red pepper-can be from a can
Artichokes-can
Spinache-fresh
Monteray Jack Cheese

Chef Bob was very nice and freindly and the recipe has turned out terrific.

We think it's great, and never understand the bad rap Sci fi gets. It is runnier when it comes out because it is hot, it will firm up as you are eating it, just like hot pizza. Cheesy and good. Because Sci-fi is less expensive, we usually get the appy's and shakes oop and us the DDP for another sit down, but we go to sci fi nearly every trip! Boys love the ribs, and I think the shrimp penne is pretty tasty!

I never miss the Sci-Fi Diner. I'd rank their food right up against any chain--I think a lot of people who complain about bad American food sometimes just think it should be done the way they are specifically are used to, which isn't wrong, just leads to a lot of missed expectations. Just have to hope for the best sometimes!

Beware the spinach dip if there are more than two of you, and you are seated in the cars, REALLY not easy to share, the onion rings come with fewer logistical problems.

we had both the spinach dip & the onion rings for apps in January and we really enjoyed both. Yes, the dip was comparable to a good sports-bar restaurant or Applebee's type chain restaurant but honestly, we didn't expect any better than that. The onion rings were very good.:thumbsup2

We liked the spinach dip in 2006. I really like the chili appetizer - in fact, that was my main course!!

We eat at Sci Fi for lunch every disney trip. I always get the spinach dip. I don't know if I would say that it was worth paying out of pocket for though. It is good but not the best that I have had.
