Spin Off: interesting baby names

I guess my son's name would have made the list--it's Torin. I heard it, liked it and he just seemed like a Torin when he was born. I did give him the middle name Scott in case he didn't like having a unique name. He's almost 16 and loves his name though.

I'm a teacher and have seen some interesting ones. Last year we had a Storm, who had a sister named Autumn and a brother named Rain. We also had a Lennox(boy), and Christani(girl). Another class had a Kudus(pronounced kuh-doos). None of these are particularly bad, but they are unique. The little boy I babysit for also has a unique name I like, Orion.

I'll have to check back after I get my list for this school year, LOL. We always have a few that we have to ask how to pronounce.;)

My name is really common (Emily), but I like it. I've come to like more uncommon (and old-fashioned) names. Right now I really like the names Eleanor and Graham.

A good friend of mine is named Mabel, I have an uncle Aiden and I have an aunt Marjorie and an aunt Gloria (names already mentioned here). I also have aunts called Olga, Jocelyn, Helena, Evelyn, and Lidwina, and cousins Edgar, Myra, Myrtle and Uriel! Oh, and can't forget Ignasious (Iggy). Of course, my father in law is Theophilus! Scarey part is, I could keep going :rotfl:.

But I replied to share the name of a girl who grew up not far from my cousin - First name - Crystal, second name Chanda, last name - Lear. Yup, her parents called her Crystal Chandelier! Luckily, she doesn't have to share her middle name unless she wants to :rotfl2:

I like the names Hazel and Zoran.

Hazel is my very kind grandmother who died when I was 10.

Zoran is the name of the very handsome security guard at Knott's Berry Farm that would always assist me when I had a difficult guest. (I worked in Guest Relations.)

I know at least two women who've named their daughters George.

All three of my kids have the name George. Not kidding. My husband was the third George in his family and our kids are the only kids. So we named them John George Christopher, Eleni Catherine Georgette, and Christian Thomas George. Our families thought we had lost our minds, but the kids really like it.

Checking more school records today. We have a Nae'xavious. THat's pronounced "Nay-ex-A-vee-us".Where do these names come from? You know they don't have some rich uncle out in Texas with that name!

Here in the South I am finding that it is common to name your duaghter Mary and then use a male family members name -- or else the father -- for the middle name.

I know a Mary Dalton (Dalton after Daddy)
and I know a Mary Will (Will after grandpa)

I find it interesting, and if I were to do it, Mary Robert really doesn't sound to bad to me, or if I used other male family members then Mary George, Mary Thomas, Mary Gerald all kinda tickle me.....

My grandfather's middle name was Condon -- sounds too close to something else, but it's unusual and if it weren't for the fact that it sounds like something else. I'd use it.

I have posted this before on one of the "name" threads but my DD who is 24 was the ONLY Whitney till High School :goodvibes

We were looking for a boys name in the W section of the book and there it was . I really liked it for a girl but it was a common mans name back in the 40's&50's .

When she graduated there were 3 of them 2 were girls and 1 was a boy . I talked to his Mom and she said he was named for his Grandfather .

My Granddaughters name is Brynlee and I thought it was odd since I had never heard it before . Turns out there is someone on the DIS and that is her beautiful daughters name and it is spelled the same :thumbsup2

Well, i am a Jennifer. Needless to say, ever since I was a child I knew that when I became a Mommy I wanted my child to have a name that was "different" but not too far out there.

We named our daughter Reagan. This tells you the kind of people I was workign with when I was pregnant. I told coworkers we were naming her Reagan. Now most of the time, I get "You mean like the President?' however my coworkers at the time would reply: "You mean like the girl in the Exorcist?" LOL!

We've been pretty lucky that no one else we know has her name, except for at her daycare, there is an infant who is named Raegan (speeled a bit differently). We lived in a small town, so it doesn't surprise me if they heard of our Rea and chose the name.

The only time we ever meet a Reagan is at DisneyWorld. So far on our trips I have met two. And funny enough, they are the same age as my Rea.

My neice is named Madison, back in the late 90's at the height of the Madison popularity. She knows several other Madisons.

I do have a super secret name that the hubster and I both like if we have another girl. We were going to use it for Reagan, but we felt that it was too out there. Now with all of the Kennedys, Taylors, Chandlers, etc we come across, we plan on using it. However, I am sunk if I ever have a boy. Most of the boy names I like are traditional and common.

This is the same thing for me and my DH. I am a Rachel and he is a James. We did not want our little girl to have a top 100 name so we named her Annabelle. Her middle name is on the top 100... its Grace.

I'm guessing the "Bentley" on the list has a mom who is a fan of "Teen Mom". One of the mothers on that show (she's the most likeable and mature of the other teens) named her son that.

My nieces are named Reagan and Carsyn.

Sometimes I wish I could rename my girls because their names are SO commonplace now, but they weren't when they were born. Hannah and Haley. They each have tons of Hannahs and Haleys in their classes. I wanted unique names, but somehow I ended up with the "Jennifer" of the 90's. (no offense to any Jennifer...I'm a Heather and that's almost the same frequency).
And no offense to mamas of boys named Austin, and maybe it's just in this part of the county, but you can't throw a rock without hitting an "Austin".

I was thinking the same thing about Bentley.

Lida is a pretty name. I like old-fashioned names, too. I campaigned hard to name my daughter Cora but my husband hated it. I also love Ella; again my husband was not a fan. We agreed on Anna - I love it but it is really popular right now. She can always go by her middle name if there are a bunch of Annas in her class :)

I know a Lydia spelled differently tho. I really hope that they are not a lot of Annas in my DD classes we had hoped to use that as her nickname but if so she will have to be Annabelle all the time or maybe Belle.

My oldest sister is named Kaureen pronuced like Maureen only with a K.

One of my other sisters named her daughter Penelope, we call her Penny and she is the only one in her whole school with the name. Her middle name is Louise after our grandmother so she is safe either way. However her mom wanted to name her Gertrude and call her Trudy but we talked her out of it. We were so scared she was going to be teased.

Also SIL named her daughter Bianca. DH and I are not fans of the name but it is actually kinda common around here. Her middle name is Cecila after their dads bioliogical mom (died when he was young).

I have a cousin who named two of her three daughters Piper and Reese, both cute names to me.

My great grandfather was named Josiah and that is one I had on my short list if I had another boy. I don't know; I just don't like "normal" names, LOL

im a postpartum nurse.... this week we had...

panda....... i almost said "as in bear????"

I used to know a Mary Robert. Can't say I really like the practice, though. Then again, I don't like boy's names on girls any time.

I know a lot of Lydias, but the poster who mentioned Lida made me think of Lyda Ann Thomas, the former mayor of Galveston. (2004-2010, I think) Her name is pronounced with a long I, like the word "lie" and then "duh." LIE-duh. I thought that's what the poster meant by Lida.

As for Mary followed by the father's name, I knew a Mary Doug. And yep.....Daddy was Doug.

like Augustus Gloop from Willy Wonka!!!

Our DD is named Carys (like Paris with a "C"). We wanted something a little different but nothing that sounded like we had made it up. :goodvibes

I've always like Carys. I like Welsh names, in general.

I have to say, I also like Augustus (and the nickname Gus), but wouldn't use it because of Augustus Gloop!
