Does your school (probably meaning your child's school) serve breakfast? If so, does everyone get breakfast or is it optional? Do the students arrive early to eat breakfast?

On another thread regarding the cost of school lunches many people responded with the cost of breakfast as well as lunch. I don't have any kids of my own yet but I consulted with a few friends and now of the elementary schools around serve breakfast. Our high school cafeteria is open before classes start for bagels, juice and milk but no hot breakfast is served and only the kids that are old enough to drive would be there early enough to take advantage of it anyway, it's mostly teachers that go in before classes.

My kids go to Catholic school, but they do not serve breakfast.

Yes they start serving breakfast 45 minutes before school starts. It's optional. the only time my kids go are when their sibling has to go in early so I just drop them both off at the same time.

ETA
It's good for people who have to go into work a little earlier than school starts. You can drop them off and not have to pay for before care.

Our school does, but only for the kids who go to the before school care. The high school here does though, but only bagels, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt type stuff.

We have free breakfast for all students. Breakfast ends about 5 minutes before the bell rings to come in and go to class. It's a public school.

Our school has a breakfast program. It's a free program where kids can go and get a free breakfast. Most of the time it's stuff like fruit, cereal and muffins. Once a week they make pancakes. They did studies showing kids do better in school when they eat breakfast. They found out not every kid was eating breakfast so they wanted to make it available to everyone. These programs are funded by donations made at grocery store (Toonies for Tummies) and by parents who send in items such as cereal and pancake mixes. I live in Canada and there are many cities running these types of programs. Basically any kid can drop in and breakfast is served to him or her.

Not that I am aware of at any level- (public) They do offer a free/reduced lunch program for families that qualify but no breakfast.

We have breakfast for k-5. It is optional, as you have to pay $25 per trimester for it. It includes milk, also.

It's eaten at what normally is milk break/snack time. I'm not sure of the exact time, but I think it's before 9am each school day. :)

My school does a breakfast program. If you get free or reduced lunch, you get free or reduced breakfast. Anyone else that wants it can buy it for $1.40.

\.

Only the free lunch kids get breakfast at our school.

No breakfast K -8, but my kids say the high school has breakfast. They don't know anyone who eats it though.

We have breakfast which is free if you qualify for free lunch, 30cents if you get reduced lunch or 60cents regular price. It is offered to anyone who needs/wants to get to school early in k-8. I don't have a clue about the high school. I just asked dd10 and she thinks you get a milk or juice and something like a bagel or box of cereal. She doesn't think there are hot options but she eats breakfast at home.

Actually I don't think 7th and 8th graders get breakfast since they start school earlier than breakfast is served but maybe there is a different arrangement for them.

The school my son goes to for speech services does. I have no idea if it is for everyone. One day, due to ice on the roof that was in danger of falling, we had to enter through the gym. It was time for the school bell and I guess a bus was late. The kids were going through the breakfast line to pick up a sack breakfast. Not sure if it was ALL kids are not. But it was a long line.

I work in an inner city school. We have 100% free breakfast and lunch at school. If after school programs are happening, free dinner is also served.

At my home district, breakfast is offered at all the schools. In some of the schools, it is free and at others is is less than $1.50. My high school age son sometimes comes early to school (depending on day). The high school breakfast is $1.35/1.50 and its a juice, milk, sausage egg cheese biscuit and something else.

Since my son has a full 8 period day (no lunch period) I don't mind him eating breakfast at school

Same with our school, K thru 12th

My kids' schools all serve breakfast (I have one in elementary, middle, and high school). My youngest's breakfasts are all free as are all the other elementary school students in our district as well as one middle school (not my middle one's school).

My middle and oldest kids can buy breakfast at their schools.

The high school menu is :

Offered Daily
Breakfast Pizza
Pancake Porky
Sausage/Egg Biscuit
Chicken Biscuit
Assorted Cereal w/ Toast
Toaster Treats
Yogurt w/ Grahams
Additional item on
Friday
Fresh Baked Cinnamon Rolls

The elementary and middle school menus vary day to day -

They have sausage on a stick, hot pocket, pancakes, yogurt with grahams, french toast sticks, and some other items. Everyday they offer cereal as an alternate.

Yes, all public schools here serve breakfast. I'd say approximately one quarter of the kids eat it. You can choose to go to breakfast or just go to your classroom, but all breakfast must be eaten before school starts.

Wow. Free? I've never heard of that.

ETA: I see others have free breakfast, as well. I wish our schools did!

My school serves breakfast. The cost is based on the student's lunch price status (free/reduced/full cost), but it is cheaper than lunch.

All the schools I have worked at have offered breakfast. I think NYC public schools city-wide offer free breakfast for anyone who wants to take advantage of it. I am not totally sure on that because the NYC school I worked at was 100% free meals and I don't think they even had a cash register in the cafeteria.

This year we have a state or federally funded breakfast program. Before then the PTO sponsored a free breakfast program with the help of our GS troop who collected hundreds of boxes of cereal every year for our elementary schools.
