The Unofficial guide says this is a wild ride. What do they mean? How wild is it? Is it scary? I'm trying to decide if my 4 year old will be okay on it.

Spiderman is one of the BEST rides and completely suitable for a 4 year old. It's a 3D simulation ride where you actually feel like you are going through the comic book.

Directly from the Universal Website:

"Your Spider-Senses Will Be Tingling. Put on your 3-D glasses for an eye-popping, pulse-pounding, first-of-its-kind 3-D Spider-Man thrill ride.

Careening through the streets and swinging high above the city, you'll see, hear, and actually FEEL the action of Spider-Man's most amazing adventure ever."

I LOVE this ride, and until you actually ride it, I find it extremely hard to describe. But again, I find that it is completely suitable for kids and in fact and not scary at all. Caution though - if you have problems with simulation type of rides, you may have a problem with this one. I have to take motion sickness pills for this one!

Don't think other poster is think about how it will affect a 4 year old cause my DS 11 first rode it when he was 9 and the villian characters can be scary and now he won't ride it and same thing goes for twister.
Don't get me wrong Spiderman is my favorite ride and is the best 3D ride around but for a 4 year old will have to be your call if you think he can handel it.

We all love this ride, not sure about being intense, but it does spin a few times, like ky07 says not sure if it would scare your 4year old only you know what they are like. my DD was 9 when she rode it , was not sure how she would be with it, as we have nothing like the rides and attractions here in Ireland you have there, so kept telling her its not real and nothing would happen to her, and she loved it.
There is a few videos of rides on here and 1 of Spiderman, have a look and decide for yourself.

I am pretty sure that my son was 4 and 1/2 when we first went to universal and the only ride that scared him was JAWS. He loved Jurrasic park (though I thought it would freak him out) and he loved spiderman , we also did Men in black ,earthquake and twister. Twister was a little much because he doesn't like thunderstorms but after the first ride we did it 3 more times .
It all depends on your child If you feel it may be too much and you have the FOTL you could just ride it alone first and leave your child with other person in your party . Then you can all just go ride together if you feel it is ok.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will let her go with us if she meets the height requirement.

10DD has been riding it since she was 3. She loves it.
It is intense, but with a little "prep" work I believe all but the most timid kid will love it. After-all they are riding through a Spiderman cartoon.
so I say:
Make certain your kiddo knows who Spiderman is. Try to find the Travel Channel's behind the scenes special on Spiderman.
Test the waters with less intense rides first. If you've done WDW...how did they handle TTBAB, Dinosaur etc. AT US try Jimmy Neutorn and Shrek first.

Just make sure that she doesn't have a problem with the 3D. My friend's 6-year-old loves Spiderman, couldn't wait to go on it. We'd been on it before, we were psyching him up for it. But the 3D scared him and he ended up coming off the ride crying hysterically that the Green Goblin threw flaming pumpkins at his face.

And we were just stunned...we thought this would be a perfect ride and never thought he would react that way at all. We all felt awful about it because he wound up getting so scared!

But it is a great ride.

I don't ride rides but they got me on this one. I hated it! The drops and turns almost made me throw up. My 8yo loved it and cried when the line was long when he wanted to go back. My husband rode it twice and he doesn't particularly care for rides either.
