Sorry for the non Disney topic. I just love the ones on this board. My 3 yo DS loves Spiderman. Is the movie too rough for 3 year olds?

Thanks a lot,

lori

YES. I am 40 and there were times I closed my eyes. The moral story line is awsome and my 12 year old loved it but there were a lot of really violent parts that I would not want my 3 year old to see.

This should be the first clue:

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for stylized action violence

G: All Ages Admitted.

PG: Some Material May Not be Suited For Children.

PG-13: PARENTS STRONGLY CAUTIONED. Some Material May Be Inappropriate for Children Under 13.

Hope This Helps!

DH & I saw Spiderman 2 last weekend and there was a little one sitting behind us maybe 3 or 4, The first time Doc Ock came on the screen he kept saying "I want to go home now" and didn't stop till the movie was over.

I wouldn't recommend taking a little one at all.

My 6 year old has a tough time sitting through ANYTHING that is not animated. I recommend getting a Spiderman cartoon or something. People just talking is boring at that age. For great reviews of all movies, go to focusonthefamily.com and click on Plugged In. They tell you in depth why a movie gets the ratings that it does. My oldest is 13 and we don't even let her see PG13 movies, with POC being the exception. Hope this helps.

If he's really obsessed with Spidey, wait until it comes out on DVD and skip past the violent scenes. Little kids tend not to care too much about continuity issues; they just want to see the cool flying effects.

Somehow, we've managed to fine-tune DS' mental "scarey-meter" just right; at 7, he knows what he can't handle. If the trailers on TV make him at all unsure, he'll tell us he would rather wait to see it on the small screen.

I think it really depends on the child. My 4 y.o. is a huge Spider-Man fan and has seen Spider-Man 1 on DVD a number of times. My husband and I decided to go ahead and take the whole family (kids ages 4, 6, 11) and if anyone got scared, one of us (me no doubt!) would leave with the kid(s) who couldn't handle it. All 3 of them loved the movie and were not scared. No one even sat on my or DH's lap. No one came to sleep in our bed that night either which is a sure sign they must not have been scared.

I don't think this means that most (or even lots of) 4 year olds should see the movie. My son's best friend (also 4) gets scared watching the Little Mermaid on DVD. I think it's really an individual decision. And of course if a kid gets really scared or upset during any movie or is disruptive to other patrons, a parent should take them out.

So a 4 year old can see and enjoy this movie without being scared, but as always, your mileage may vary!

We took our son for his 5th birthday and he loved it. Our daughter also went who is 6. Neither were scared.

DH took our DS (3 1/2) and he LOVED it. He could barely wait to see it, kept pestering my DH until he took him. Funny thing, he talks about certain parts and DH says that he thinks our DS paid better attention than he did. ;)

I think it has to do more with what you think is appropriate for your child to watch. Considering the rating and that it has violence, are you ok with your child seeing the movie? My ds 9 went with my FIL, and while my 9 y/o loved it, my FIL hated it and my son had to explain it to him. My ds5 wanted to see it, but I didn't feel he was ready to handle it, so my MIL took him to see Garfield instead.
