SPG site is down - 500 bonus points

Could you give us some more info. Is this for 1 night, or to upgrade? Which hotel?

I went to the web site and there was a message there, apologizing because the site was down. It said if you book (any hotel I assume) by calling, then you would get 500 bonus points. I assume it was only good for as long as the site was down. I had to book a room at the Sheraton at Syracuse U., so I called and did it over the phone.

What a great deal, you must be happy! I was hopeing it was for upgrades only costing 500 points, oh well.

The website says that you receive 500 bonus points for the inconvenience of the website being down. I was on the site this morning to check my existing reservation. When I called to get my bonus points they said you have to book a room to get them, but the website doesn't state that? I didn't argue though, just called back later and booked a 1 night room. I wonder if I lose my points if I have to cancel?
