European swimwear that is.

will it ever be acceptable at a public beach here?

Well, I was just at Orient Beach 1 month ago. If you had a Speedo on, you would have been overdressed:cool1:;)!!!

I've seen them. It aint' pretty :sad2:

If I had on a speedo, and exhaled, I would look like I was naked

All I can say is NASTY!!!
Rule of thumb for med who insist on wearing one...
If you look down and you do not see the Speedo you should not be wearing a Speedo!

Ewwwww. . .brings back memories of sitting at my kids' swim team practice one afternoon. An elderly man was swimming laps in an unoccupied lane. I didn't really notice him until he. . .and his tiny black Speedo. . .climbed up the ladder out of the pool.

:scared1:

And no, he did NOT have the body for it!!!
((((Shudder))))

Brings back bad memories for me too.

I was at a beach in FL and there was a guy wearing what looked like from the front, a Speedo. Older guy too, probably somewhere around 60. Wrinkled, all hairy. He was playing Frisbee by himself and somehow :confused3
his Frisbee ended up in front of me.

And here's the part that I needed therapy to get over ... he turned his back to me when he bent over to pick it up. He was actually wearing a thong.

Sorry, I can't talk about it anymore. :scared:

:rotfl2:

OK, Belle. . . that beats my story!! I'd rather have saggy, wrinkly old dude from a distance than THAT up close!! :scared:

I like Speedos, even on men who don't have the body for them. I can't stand what boys/men wear to the beach these days, those long board shorts. It's like going in the water with pants on! If the big belly men wore trunks, they'd still have the big belly on stage. So they might as well wear what they like, the less the better I say. I personally don't like to wear too much, I wear as little as I can get away with, so I can feel free.

And man-bumps don't offend me.

No. Just all sorts of no.

I am in Los Angeles and lived at the beach for 10 years.

You really haven't experienced life until you see a plus-sized hispanic hirsute gentleman sporting one.

In France you can't (usually) swim in any swimming pool unless you're wearing speedos or something similar. If you try to wear "normal" trunks or board shorts you get thrown out! Probably why French men in particular favour them.

They say it's for hygiene reasons or to prevent bits of cloth getting stuck in the filters - whatever. DH was not amused (and thankfully he looked good in the slightly more shorts-like version of speedos).

In the UK and Australia they're known as "Budgie Smugglers" which I think it is great!

Oh and they're really only prevalent in France, Spain and Italy. They're incredibly rare in the UK - thank god.

Too funny. I've never heard that phrase before, and I can't wait to use it. Except, I guess I need to see someone in "budgie smugglers" to use the term "budgie smugglers."
