speed limit

I believe that whenever you see a strange speed limit they do it to get your attention so maybe you'll actually go slow instead of just ignoring the sign completely. The company that my dad worked for had a strange speed limit in their parking lot too.

We thought the SAME thing! LOL We talked about that all day long. LMAO!!

Cause 15 MPH would get everyone killed!!!!!!! :lmao:

I always guessed it was something like lavenderpeach said since it just seems so odd!

This reminds me of an interesting ad that I read in my 'Today's Parents' magazine... @ 50 KM (31.07 miles) per hour, if you hit a child with a car, there is an 80% chance that they will die. :( :( :( @30 KM (18.64 miles) per hour , if you hit a child with a car, there is a 95% chance that they will survive! :)
This was an ad referring to school zones (Canadian schools, etc.) I'm not sure what the USA does in regards to school zones.

Honestly, even 1 MPH less on the sign sounds reasonable to me that it can actually make a difference, in the event a person were hit with a vehicle... and the fact that it seems to be an 'odd' number to view on a sign (as in, not 10 or 15) makes it easier to spot/notice.

22.53 km per hour, (14 miles per hour) is a really safe, slow speed so everyone can be safe! Kudos to Disneyland for implementing such a high standard of safety for all. :)

I thought it had something to do with enforcement. Disney can enforce that speed limit, but if it was up to 15 then Anaheim PD would be the enforcers and thus would need to patrol the parking structure. Or something like that. Maybe its just late and my blood sugar is off.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with taking note of the speed limit. I see odd numbers in other big parking lots like that too.

BTW- school zones in the US are 25 mph "when children are present".

Don't worry, I've heard that reason too.

Actually, in Utah, school zones are 20 mph and as I drove through my usual 2 this morning on the way to my kids school, I saw 2 different police officer's patrolling and pulling people over. YAY! I hate school zone speeder's!

In Ariz. it's 15mph,the whole time the signs are up. Kids or no kids.:thumbsup2

You know, there are a lot of good reasons in this thread. I bet it's a combination of all them to be honest. :)

I have always thought it was the "because people talk about it" reason until recently when I was told that it is the "Disneyland security vs. Anaheim PD" explanation, which makes a lot of sense actually.

Stories I have heard is that people will go the next number higher that is divisible by 5 thus they go 15 instead of 20 as that is 6 mph over the limit. I have heard the police jurisdiction story also.

Years ago I'd heard a CM say that over the mic on the trams "15" can sound like "50", so they made the speed limit 14 to avoid any confusion.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;)

But in theory, if that were true... wouldn't "14" sound like "40"?

I heard it was so disney had control...like another pp said. Which makes sense since they like to be in charge. I think the speed bumps thing makes good sense too. I totally plan on asking a CM in a few weeks! :)
