Spectrum Moms Take on The World! Our Last Day...Multiple Posts!

Such early intervention! Incredible! :goodvibes

We were lucky that Alex's day care pointed his delays out to us! We saw the speech delay, but they were the ones who noticed the social differences.

At five years old, I'm still looking for signs in Demetri. I think a part of me always will.

I totally get that!

:goodvibes

:lmao::lmao:

Social cues are so difficult to teach to Ariana. She understands what the expressions mean, she just doesn't know how to apply them to conversations.

If we use an expression and Alex doesn't get it, he'll say, "I told you I don't like expressions!"

Where is mrsksomeday's kleenex smilie when you need it? Such a big boy thing to say... :goodvibes

I know! So big! I needed mrsk's kleenex box too!

Awwww...Amy thank you so much for sharing your story!!! Your boys are amazing, as are you!!!!!

Thanks Jen! You're too sweet! :goodvibes

Thanks, Amy, I love reading about the boys... especially all the strides they are making, both in school and at home.

I really should keep a box of tissues on this desk!! :sad1: (happy tears)

Kathy

I asked Zachary if he wanted a kissing hand this morning. (Anyone familiar with the book... mom gives little raccoon a kiss on his hand to keep with him all day - Zach & I used to do that last year...) He told me he didn't need it. :sad1:

Thank you for sharing your story! It is really wonderful to hear of how well both the boys are doing and how far they have come. :goodvibes

I'm very curious about this number game....

You're welcome! :goodvibes Thanks for reading along. It was fun to take the time to look back and apprecaite how far they have come.

Amy, thank you for sharing about your boys! I need some tissues now, too. lol! They are both adorable.

Thanks for reading!! I love that we are all doing this PTR together so we can put all of our stories in one place!

this is like Rebekah...I am thankful that during the time she was diagnosed w/ PDD-NOS (and Naomi-Ruth was in the hosiptal) you were there on the phone w/ me...a friend I truly needed at that moment to understand and help me see this was "OK"

that is wonderful....I love those moments too when Nathan can accept and understand that his Autism is not a defining word or something wrong...but something he can handle and he is so much more than just a word

you sound like the Genie

I was really happy I could be there for you!

Zach has been doing a wonderful job of recognizing his needs (sometimes). Those moments are rarer with Alex, but once in a while he will ask me questions or show some insight when I'm tucking him in at night. I treasure those times.

I wish I could be a Genie! :genie:

you are not alone....I feel the same way especially w/ Naomi-Ruth she is very much like her brother in behaviors...there are strong differences of her age 3 1/2 and he at that age...but it is hard not to look at my younger girls w/out the my pesty "autism colored" glasses on....especially since both of the twins were diagnosed late in age. Nathan at just shy of 8 and Bekah 10 1/2

::yes::

can relate to this point too...

Good morning Ladies! I just found this report...It's been a crazy summer for me and I've not been on the DIS much, but I was catching up on Amy's PTR and found you! This trip sounds fantastic!

For those of you I already "know" (Kathy, Julie, Amy).....I'm so glad you are able to take this trip! It was fun reading about your families and hearing your Disney stories again!

For those of you I have not yet had the pleasure of "meeting".....It's nice to finally meet you! Tracy, your story about Ariana brought tears to my eyes. What a special little girl!

I'm so excited to follow all of your planning adventures! :thumbsup2

Hi Missy!! I'm so glad you found us & are reading along!! :goodvibes

Thanks to Julie & Kathy for sharing more about our home for the weekend & revealing the "prizes" from our recent contest!! Awesome photos!! :thumbsup2

I just found your PTR and I'm so excited for all of you! :goodvibes It sounds like a fabulous trip and a wonderful break.

I have a DS8 who has classic autism and Disney is our place as well. We had a rough Mommy and son trip to Disney in May, which was our first big trip with no help.

So, I'm treating myself and doing a solo trip to Disney Sept. 23-28 and staying at Kidani.:banana: I'm so exicted and nervous to be doing my first solo trip (anywhere, with the exception of work and we all know that doesn't count;)) Thank goodness for incredible family who make respite possible. It's taken me 4 years to figure out that respite is not a dirty word and is necessary for one's sanity. :flower3:

Can't wait to hear more about your trip.

Kathy, the book sounds like a fantastic idea. Count me as one of those people who was inspired to try Disney after reading one of your trip reports. Sometimes we just need the encouragement to try. :goodvibes

Ah Kidani, I will make sure to get some candid shots for you all in Dec when we go Home for the first time!! Love the prizes. very clever :)

Ooooh I am so jealous! ;) I'm dying to stay at AKL, but will have to wait until my kids are "over" balloons.

Love the way you all decided on the bed situation. :rotfl:

I took a solo trip last October and loved it! I came back a much more relaxed mom. Enjoy it and do whatever is your hearts desire on a whim while you are there.

Hi! I'm Kim.

I don't have a # but I'm a spectum mom too. My DS5 has ASD/ADHD. We went through the gammut of Developmental Delay, PDD/NOS then finally Autism. Like many of you have said....God gave him to us for a reason and he is a blessing to us as is our DS7.

I've read through about half of the PTR but i just couldn't wait until I finished to intoduce myself. I'm looking forward to following along and getting to "know" you all. This trip is going to be MAGICAL! Congrats to all of you who are blessed to be going on this wonderful adventure. :goodvibes

Hi Melissa & Kim!! I'm so glad you are both joining us for the journey! When we started this process I was really hoping that we'd draw in some new spectrum moms! :goodvibes So nice to "meet" you both!

Melissa - I'm so glad you're taking a solo trip! Rested moms make better moms!

Kim - I love the saying in your signature! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I love the way you decided on the beds!!! GREAT IDEA!

:thumbsup2

That would be great Mary!! I can't see enough pictures of the whole resort... it's gorgeous. I was there to eat at Boma last year, but that was just a little glimpse.

Love the way you all decided on the bed situation. :rotfl:

AKL is one of my dream resorts too! I'm feeling kind of guilty that I'll be there without the kids... but since we usually stay off-site, this may be my only chance!!

Game One decided that TRACY will share with KATHY.

Game Two decided that TRACY and KATHY get the KING bed.
(Which is probably a really good thing for her since I'm fairly POOH-sized!) pooh:

I'd like to thank the Academy, my wonderful family and especially my fans.... oh wait... wrong awards! Groan!

I loved going thru those photos. Alex's girlfriend was looking over my shoulder.... she wants to sleep in the bathtub.

Great update Amy!

I've had the pleasure of spending sometime with Amy's boys. They are both bright and lovely kids...and you'd never know that Alex's language was delayed when he was little!

Tracy- I once slept in a bathtub......to get away from a very loud snore'r that was in my shared room. With enough towels it's not that bad! :rotfl:

Thanks to all the SCHMOLLAND moms that have joined us.

Awwww... thanks Heidi! Yes - she's right - you would NEVER know Alex had a speech delay! We often comment on the fact that we wanted him to talk so badly, and now he won't shut up! Although he is still in speech therapy for pragmatic language skills...

I promise I don't snore roomie!! ;)

LOL!! What a creative way to figure out the sleeping arrangements!! LOVE IT!!!! AKV Kidani village looks amazing!! You guys are going to have a great time!

Hi Melissa and :welcome:

Thank you for the compliment; it thrills me to know that I played a small part in your Disney planning!!

If you are going solo, you should read MRYPPNS report from her solo trip... I think it will inspire you as well.
