Spectrum Moms Take on The World! Our Last Day...Multiple Posts!

MRYPPNS - I just read your solo trip report, it was great!! I had the feeling as I was reading it that we are family separated at birth. :lmao::lmao: Your planning looks suspiciously familar and I especially loved your reference to being a travel agent. I fill that role for my family and friends as well. My SIL told be that our girls trip to Disneyworld last November was the best planned trip she's ever done. :goodvibes Seriously though, you gave me some great ideas for my upcoming trip and a great idea of what I can get accomplished in 5 days, so thanks! :woohoo:

Thanks for your kind words Melissa! You truely will be amazed at how quickly you can get around without the family AND how cool it is to just sit on a bench for 10 minutes if you want!

I have read the Holland piece before, but never the Schmolland (or however you spell it!)....both are beautifully written! Thank you for posting and sharing them, giving a "glimpse" of a guess as to what your lives might entail on a daily basis.

I should have known! Leave it to DISers!

:disrocks:

I will have to stop by...

Kathy

:lmao::lmao: That should be handed out in the friends and family of special needs kids packet somewhere. :lmao::lmao: ((Heck, it's also a lot like what me living with OCD is an non-OCD world is like))

I've seen the Holland piece but not the Schmolland, thank you for sharing that Amy and CONGRATS for getting that paperwork done!

DisMomAmy - The Schmolland thread is over on the disABILITIES Community Board: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2447340

It is a great thread. I've posted a little but read it all, and it so perfectly describes my life some days. :)

Would love for any of you ladies to join us on the Schmolland thread anytime! We've got a great bunch over there too. ;-)

This is the funnest PTR I've ever been in on!

I'll definitely pop over to say Hi!

Thank you, Amy!

I've read the "Holland" piece before, but not the "Schmolland" one. I enjoyed it very much... perhaps because I recognized so much of my own life in it.

So glad you shared that!

Thanks for posting those Amy. From one on the outside looking in, the insights are helpful. :)

Glad to share... I can't even remember where/when I originally read them. I had read the Holland piece before the Schmolland piece too... I really enjoy them both. I need to print them out and hand them up. :thumbsup2

Actually I think I might have first seen the Holland piece as part of packet I got from a support group! :thumbsup2

OCD is a big piece of autism, so there's definitely a connection there!

You're welcome! Now the waiting game begins...

I have been reading along and think it is wonderful that you ladies are taking the time out of your crazy lives to relax and enjoy Disney in a different way (without children).

You are all an inspiration!

Thank you for posting the Holland and Schmolland pieces. I am going to share it with my close friend whose daughter was just diagnosed with PPD-NOS.

I can't wait to read more about your plans and I hope it also means a TR will be coming in January/February.

WELCOME TO HOLLAND
by
Emily Perl Kingsley.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

thanks for sharing this Amy...I know I have heard this before...maybe even from you...

I certaintly took this trip and sat in utter dismay for almost a yr while struggling w/ the realization, my role, my expectations, my child(ren) was not who or what I had "planned " for...but that is the key...I don't think I was ever meant to "plan" for this.

Our Senior Pastor in our church has a son a little younger than the twins who has HFA...and he once shared at the pulpit in a way it would have been easier to mourn once...one time for the "death" of his perfect bubbly son...than to mourn each day. As he explained his pain as a father and I felt that deeply.

A mother I know through association called me several months back feeling completely overwhelmed w/ parenting her child and wanting to "fix" it...and wanted to know how do I do it?

I couldn't give her an answer...but I told her first you need to accept and heal your heart then you can help and heal your child...you can't fix it like a cold, or mend it like a cut, but you can and will support, advocate, cry, smile, and feel great joy...maybe not this moment...but you will :goodvibes

I'm happy my plane landed in Holland....

Thanks! I'm happy to share the stories - they are amazing.

Submitting the paperwork was a big load off my shoulders! Apparently I have to go in this week to review the paperwork... :confused3
