Thought I'd ask here too (already posted on the DisAbilities page)...anyone have any experience with the Special Tomato Buggy Stroller?

Thanks!!

Is it the umbrella style you are looking at and are you wanting to use it w/ the tomato inserts. What is the height and weight of you kiddo if you don't mind me asking.

Hi....well, we have twins but they are out growing their strollers now and i want some that they can grow with. I never anticipated needing them for so long but, with a disability, they need them. No, I don't need the inserts, just a lightweight stroller for travel, comfy, and higher weight limit. They are only 30 lbs and 39 & 40 inches. they are skinny and tall! I just found another contender...but pricey...Maclaren XLR. We'll see! The Tomato is on sale at Adaptive Mall right now but only goes to 55 lbs...Maclaren goes to 65. Any thoughts?

I know this isn't comparing apples to apples because u mentioned the maclaren xlr. I purchased a maclaren twin triumph for our June trip because I wanted something really light and easy for busses. I have had lots of strollers over the years and 2 other double strollers and I love this maclaren. It drives great it was narrow enough to get through any doorway,go through shops and it folds like a dream, I can fold it with one hand while holding my 1 yr old. It is super light and small on the busses. I think the xlr is a little heavier, but if mine is any indication I vote for the maclaren. After 6 kids I find myself saying all the time why didn't I just start with a maclaren. I haven't had it very long but it looks to be very durable. We have abused it so far and it got left in a downpour at Disney. It dried out fast and after we got home the Mickey bars washed out wonderfully:) my 7 year old even took a turn riding in it( she exceeds the weight limit a little) and it still drove wonderfully. Sorry that was long hope it helps.

Any pics or links to these strollers?

I am coming to wdw for 1st trip next year. With 3&5 yr olds. I know they might not want stroller all the time but it is a must for our stuff & if they fall asleep. I'm looking into other stroller options. Not excited about folding up giant double stroller to get on busses. But, not excited about buying new stroller either?!

I just replied w/ more info on the post in disabilities skip the XLR its a beast and pain to push and they will out grow the tomato fairly quickly as well. for height your best options would be the baby jogger city mini and the i'coo pluto. If you have any other questions from what I posted here and on the other thread just let me know you can pm or post here.

Wait... why would you be bringing tomatoes with you to Disney? Why do they need a stroller?

Edit: Er, I should specify I'm not making like of whatever special need is involved, just the idea of a "tomato stroller".

I didn't like the way the tomato folded down, it looked harder to do so we ended up buying the Liberty by advance mobility. Your kiddos are much smaller than our DS but we have used his since he was 5 and he still can grow into it. I feel like for the years we have used and the years to come, it was a good price considering all the years of use we get out of it.

The liberty has a strap by the seat like other strollers, that I pull and it folds in half if needed. Or you can just load it in the rear door of the Disney bus.

I don't know about doubles but for single this is a great stroller.

I also vote for a Maclaren. We've owned every model they make, and truely wouldn't buy another brand...well...maybe Chicco. My son is 10 and exceeds the weight by about 15lbs and it still pushes like a dream. Good luck deciding :)

I work in the adaptive seating clinic in my local children's hospital. We really have found that the convaid cruiser/metro line holds up very well if its an umbrella type stroller that you are looking for ( :

I have had experience with the special tomato stroller, and honestly, the one family that insisted on getting it hated it almost immediately.

We have had luck with some insurance companies covering the strollers as well with a letter of medical necessity from the children's physician.

Have a wonderful trip!!:thumbsup2
