I went and set up my special savings account-yipeeeee!
I only needed $10 to open it. I rolled all my coins, which came out to $17.00 .
Great thing about this is I can transfer money from my checking acct. So i transfered another $10 total of $27:goodvibes

I also will have my Flex 125 medical reinbursement, that will automatically deposit to my checking acct and all of that will be transfered into my special acct. Once I turn that in I will get $55.27 (my limit for the year is $1000)
total saved so far for Feb. will be $82.27:cool1:

It's a slow start but my goal is to save up deposit for the 3 of us for a 7 night cruise:cool1:

Way to go. Sounds like a plan. I did something similar with our WDW trip.:thumbsup2

Thanks. This budget crisis has made me rethink my spending. I have another acct just for x-mas. In May I will be done paying off all my debt except 1 creditcard 18 months 0% and my car loan. Dh well that another story.I know some may say all money should go toward debt but looking towards a vacation motivates me to pay my cards down.

I would love to go to wdw again but airfare is to much, so living near a port will save me money if we cruise. Someday We plan on going to wdw for 3 days and do a cruise to caribean but not untill all cards are paid:goodvibes

Sounds like a great plan!!

Every little bit adds up and this new account will be proof when your on your cruise! :cool1:

You go!! I am saving for a Bermuda trip for our 20th next June 2011. Every bit of found money will go there--it becomes like a game. Have fun planning your cruise!

dd11 asked me how much is needed to start the acct. Guess she is maybe thinking of starting one for her spending money. She can't wait to go on another cruise. As a family we really watch our spening on junk- no more junk-lol! We've even been skipping the movies and prefer to rent movies from Red Box $1 each.

Now my mind is working on how to put more money away. we have cans/bottles to turn in and we'll do a yardsale in March.

would love to hear some other tips

Do you do Sunshine Rewards? That is slow going but it does add up.

I like the idea of using change from purchases to fund a vacation account. You always pay with paper money and then any change goes into your special account. I know some people also round up to the nearest dollar in their checkbook and save the extra for vacation.

Good luck to you! A cruise is great motivation. I am on a mission to pay off our debt too. I have 1 credit card left and our car loan. It is exciting paying it down. My motivation is the college bills that will be coming in the fall of 2011. Cruising is a lot of fun!

I too have a special vacation-only account. It really helps me "see" the money. I just got two rebate checks yesterday totaling $15, so it's off to the bank. I am saving to fund our tips and excursions for a fall cruise for our family of six.

Other ways I put $ in:
1. When I have to buy something and have set aside a fixed amount, but find a way to save. Example: I found a 15 percent off Staples coupon that saved me $7 last week, so into the fund it went.
2. When I find a way to reduce a monthly bill, the first month's savings goes into the fund.
3. When I sold my daughters' bunk beds on Craigslist, I put the money in the vacation fund.

It is called Found Money for me. I talk about it on my blog along with the couponing to disney blog. I am going to disney for free. That is my goal. So far I am at a success rate of $400.00

Sunshine Rewards is a big player here for me as well.

I have the same thing for my vacation account. Every couple of days I go through all my debit card purchases, round each one up to the nearest dollar and transfer all that "change" into the vacation account...amazing how it adds up. Plus all our refundable bottle money goes into there, and any little bits I might win on lottery tickets. Plus I take a lump sum off of each paycheque to put in there and since I sometimes buy supplies for school or church, if I didn't really miss the money for those then when I get reimbursed I put those in there too.

So far, at the rate we're going, I'll be able to pay for our Disney trip in November in cash :)

Because I can't be trusted to do that, we're paying for as much as possible in cash. And then all the coins get saved until the end of the month (would hate to need one last loaf of bread for the month, and not have the chagne in the grocery envelope, so I leave it), then at the end of the month all those coins go in the coin jar.

We have "family fun" money, grocery money, and individual fun money, along with gas money, each in its own cash envelope, and each one has coins saved for that jar.

Adds up!

If you have CD, DVD, and even videogames to sell, make sure they are in good condition, and check out abundatrade.com and secondspin.com. The former doesn't reimburse for your shipping (though if you send in your tracking/delivery confirmation number they send you a giftcard for their store) but has some good prices...the latter does reimburse for media mail for the approximate amount of items you sent and they accepted.

I use my citi bank for cash rewards 1% for regular purchases and 2%or 3% for grocery stores, gas, drugstores. Once i reach $50 I can request a check for it.

Disney card 1% . I only use this when I get the 5% bonus deal, so far I have $148.00 :cool1:

Discover is 1% I think

so which ever card gives the most cash at the time. I do pay the cards off each month

each paycheck i will put some money into my special acct after I put $$ into x-mas acct
