Special Room Categories at OKW?

Does anyone know how the new booking policy (that was announced in the fall issue of "Vacation Magic") will work? It says members will be able to "secure requests" to vacation home near Hospitality House at the time the reservation is made.

This would certainly give preference to OKW owners for high demand areas at that resort.

Since all of the resorts have areas which are more requested than others, wouldn't it seem fair that this policy would be implemented at all of the DVC resorts?

There is a similar policy at BWV, although there the preferred location requires more points.

Personally, the change at OKW isn't going to affect me since we like the turtle pond area instead.

I suppose the policy at BWV does give some preference to BWV owners since they have first crack at the preferred higher point rooms. But, since there are no plans to make the Hospitality House homes a higher point value, the change at OKW seems to be much more preferential IMO.

It would seem that special room categories should be implemented at all of the DVC resorts thus giving owners at those resorts first crack at "securing" them in advance as well.

If you feel strongly about this for your home resort(s), then consider writing a letter to DVC. If enough others do the same, DVC may "make it so". :)

The only way I really feel about this new policy at this point is that is it really opening up a pandora's box.

Should DD views be a "special category" at SSR? Epcot views at BCV? Should VWL owners be able to "secure at the time of reservation" that they won't get the dumpster view? I was wondering how others feel.:confused3

Actually, I believe the highly-prized accommodations at BWV are the "standard" rooms, which are fewer points. Those are the first rooms gobbled up by owners at the 11-month window opening.

The Boardwalk view is another highly-sought type, but it is the same number of points as the "Preferred" rooms, and those rooms are the original standard point rate for BWV. At BWV, "Preferred" is really what you take when you can't get what you want.

It doesn't make sense to me that they'd single out OKW for this-"being close to the main building can be guaranteed at time of booking"-and yet not do it for some other places, especially SSR, which looks much bigger and more spread out than OKW. And yet they couldn't guarantee non-smoking at time of booking? But, fortunately, that one's a moot point now. In general, I agree with lilstint-I think it's opening up a pandora's box. There are lots of requests that are made more frequently than others. Why are they singling this one out?
