Special Rates?

Just daydreaming tonight and looking at ABD's website. It's advertising special rates for certain destinations this fall. Looking at the advertised "special rates" though, most of them are minimally discounted, the same, or in one case more expensive than next year's dates. I don't really consider $100 off all that special, given the overall cost of the trip.

Am I missing something here?

ABD seems to feel that $100 off is a big deal, as that's the only discount I've ever gotten for being a repeat customer (except for the free pre-night on the Danube cruise, which was a limited time benefit). Big whoop in my opinion, when compared to the cost of these trips.

I *think* the prices on some of the adventures *did* go down for 2017, but I haven't had a chance to compare & see what they cut to achieve that.

I know the SF trip price went down from what we were going to pay in 2016,however, they did revamp the trip. Different hotel, different start time, some more OYO time. So, maybe that is why the price changes?

I must say that I had a chuckle when you stated the *deal* at $100 off :-)

At least you get a discount for being a repeat customer. I would take that $100 off for being a repeat customer. We don't qualify for any discounts even though we are repeat customers because we're not American.

That's too bad. :( But I would have to think that's not ABD's choice, that there's a legal reason they can't offer it (most likely imposed by the Canadian government, not ours).

Actually it has nothing to do with legal reasons or anything being imposed by the Canadian government. That's BS being spouted by ABD. It's ABD's choice not to offer it to us, just like it's their choice not to send us their marketing material and just like it's Disney's choice not to send us their planning DVD's. Nat Geo has no problems offering us their returning traveller discounts (which can range between 10% up to $500 per person) nor sending us their marketing materials since I just received their most recent updated catalogues.

LOL, I had the same thought! Such a deal. The DU discounts are much better!

Canada is strict in how things can be advertised in Canada to Canadians.

I apologize for not knowing specifics, but it has something to do with how a company is licensed and registered and whether or not they have offices in Canada.

American travel companies trying to advertise in Canada must carry a very large (and costly)
insurance policy to advertise to Canadians.

Some companies may find they get enough business to cover these costs. Other may not. It must depend on where the largest suspected number of potential guests are located.

Dreams Unlimited Travel can book Canadian citizens, but we can not advertise via mail.

Dreams Unlimited Travel and The DIS have run contests in the past and we have tried to include Canadian citizens. I forget the exact rule, but it has something to do with it not being allowed if it's a "lottery", meaning a someone wins randomly. We were told we could try it if there was a knowledge test involved, meaning people would have to answer questions. We tried everything and couldn't make it work.

When ABD sent CDs of the trip photos, we had issues with them sitting in Canadian Customs and they carried a large import tax. This seems to have been corrected, but ABD also does this via the internet now, so the issue seems to be moot.

Well, good to know I'm not alone.

I'll be over here, daydreaming some more...
