I have finally convinced my Dad to make a DL trip. He isn't ill or anything but he knows this will be his final trip to Disneyland. :sad1:

My Dad, my son and I are headed there 2/27-3/5.

Any ideas on some ways I can make this trip extra special for Dad? I definitely want to get him up with the Captain on the Mark Twain, I thought about the LillyBelle but I'm not sure how that works...anyone know?

Any other ideas? This will definitely be a trip my son won't forget.

They have buttons for special occasions, birthdays, 1st visit, etc...not sure if any of those would apply? If not, you could always make your own!

I also make a special t-shirt for DS on each visit. My *hope* is that someday I can make all those special t-shirts into a quilt.

His 1st visit said "I'm Going to Disneyland" on the front with a picture of Mickey and the back said "My 1st Visit, August 2008" I also had a plain blue one with the words, "Prince Charming" on the front. Super cute for boys...not alot out there so I had to make my own.;) This year, I have one that will say "It's My Birthday and I'm Going to Disneyland!". Anyways...you get the idea. Be creative and if you think your Dad would wear a special shirt...it's a great way to share with everyone what he's celebrating. For my folks, I would probably do something like "Everyone's a Kid at Disneyland" or "I Feel Like a Kid Again" etc. The up side to this is that you will have this t-shirt as a "special" keepsake in the later years.:goodvibes

For my Mom, who practically grew up at Disneyland, she has fond memories of the first few years after the park first opened. I might attempt to give her a "trip down memory lane" complete with old family photo's and some history/mementos from that time period. Ebay is an excellent place to find old Disney memorabilia! Most likely I would put together a special album and save room to add new photo's and keepsakes. And of course this will be another great keepsake to have years later.

We are going the same time frame...Have Fun!!

Janelle - for the LillyBelle, just ask the CM at the train station if she is in use at that time (or when during the day she will be in use). A CM has to be available to ride in the LB with you. It is beautiful :thumbsup2 We had an awesome CM who had the most wonderful Disneyland stories. It was a highlight for sure.

What about lunch at Blue Bayou?

What about lunch at Blue Bayou?

I thought of that because he's mentioned he's always wanted to eat there. He looked at the menu online though and nothing at all stood out to him. :(

Thanks for the LB tips...I will definitely add that to my list. :goodvibes

Janelle~You can also ride on the tender of the train, up with the engineer. You do the same as with the LB, just ask the CM. It is a seat for just two, but it might be fun for Ayden and his grandpa to ride together.

Thanks Tina :thumbsup2 I completely forgot about that. I know they would both enjoy that. I keep thinking of all these photo ops with the two of them. :goodvibes

I know they won't put nicknames on the Mickey Ears but do think something like "Papa" would be ok? Would love a picture of them walking down Mainstreet with their Mickey Ears on. :earboy2:

It's a little pricy, around $120 or so, but its a commerative Disneyland brick you can have custom made with his name on it and they install it at the front entrace to Disneyland in the esplanade between both parks. So when he can be there when he cant be there you know. Each time you go, its like you have a part of him with you.

Great idea. I wish i had though of that earlier so he could have seen it. That's certainly something to think about. Thanks :)

You bet. For an extra $30 or so they give you a clear crystal in a sitting holder, that laser prints what the actual brick looks like. Then the next time you go you can take the map that is sent along stating where your brick has been paved, and you can take pictures of it, and with it later on to show your dad.

Get a silhouette made on main street with your father and your son. We have two such silhouettes on the wall--one is of my brother and me, when I was about 8 and he was about 5, and one is of my daughter when she was about 8.

I thought the silhouettes were done in New Orleans? They must have moved.

You may be thinking of the self portrait drawings the do in New Orleans? The sillhouettes have always been done on main Street. Great idea...thank you to the OP! :thumbsup2

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was wondering where I could find out more info about this? Do you know about how far in advance you need to order?

Thank you!
